Reynolds Musical Artists in the Spotlight
The Reynolds Music departments have recognized the power of music during unusually stressful times.

Johnathan Hamiel, who is the Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Reynolds High, asked band students how they are using music to help stay motivated and inspired through COVID-19 and social distancing. He posted their responses online. Read more here.

In keeping with May's "Mental Health Month" theme, RJR piano students conducted projects exploring the value of music therapy. AmyBith Gardner Harlee teaches piano at Reynolds High, guided the students through their projects, and collected their responses. Read the article here.

School System Updates
While schools remain closed, bookmark this WS/FCS web page to keep up with the latest developments, including e-learning resources, FAQs for parents to know, and information about the availability of meals for those in need.
Distance-Learning Devices
The school system ended the distribution of internet hotspots, and computer devices for E-Learning on May 8. The Technology Device Exchange Depot that trades broken devices for operating ones, will remain open throughout the remainder of the school year. The Device Exchange Depot is at the WS/FCS Education Building located at 4801 Bethania Station Road in Winston-Salem.  It is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we know this pandemic has created some challenges.  Students and families can now call the hotline at 336-661-3128 and ask to speak to the Student Services Helpline.  From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Monday through Friday we will have school social workers, counselors, and psychologists available to provide resources and help.
Updates on Grading for High School (grades 9-11)
Final grades that are 80 or above will be listed as numeric grades and included in your child’s GPA. Credit will be awarded. Grades between 60-79 will receive the Pass/PC19. Credit will be awarded, but grades are not included in the GPA. (From June 8-10, students/families can contact their teachers to choose the numeric option instead.)
Grades below 60 will receive the Withdraw/WC19. No credit is issued, but Credit Recovery options will be available.

Key Dates for Grades 9-12

May 28: Last date to assign new eLearning assignments

June 1-5: Each High School will issue guidance for students and parents on the return of computers and hot spots, band instruments, library books, sports equipment and other school items

June 5: Last date to submit eLearning assignments for grades

June 8-10: Students who receive a Pass/PC19 can contact their child’s teacher to change it to a numeric grade which will be included in the GPA.

June 12: Report cards and EC Progress Reports are mailed home

June 18: Last day of FACE program

WS/FCS Virtual Academy Approved
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education has given its approval to a new virtual option for students for the 2020-2021 school year.  The WS/FCS Virtual Academy is designed to provide K- 12 students with a personalized education option that offers flexible virtual experiences that are also innovative and rigorous.
