Honoring Veterans on Memorial Day
Each year on Memorial Day weekend, we honor and celebrate the men and women, past and present, and their families, who have served in the various branches of the U. S. Military. We thank them for their service and their sacrifices to uphold and defend the principles on which the United States was founded.
In honor of all those service members, today we are highlighting one of the earliest TeSelle Family service veterans, Gerrit Henry TeSelle (1894-1953), youngest son of Harmen Jan te Selle (1844-1919) and Johanna Brethouwer. Gerrit served in World War I as a Private in the U. S. Army Infantry, Company "D", 14th Machine Gun Battalion, 5th Division. We encourage you to read more about Gerrit's life and his military service in our TeSelle Family website at https://tesellefamily.org/profile/teselle-gerrit-h-1894-1953/. Be sure to read the detailed article about how Machine Gun Units were deployed and operated during WWI.
As part of our TeSelle Family website, we are considering adding a section to identify all members of the extended TeSelle family who have served in the military, either in the United States, or in the Netherlands, or other home country. So far we have not created such a website section, and as yet, we do not even have a list of our family's veterans. However, we are exploring the possibility, and we would like to receive your comments and suggestions via our Contact page. If you have one or more veterans in your branch of the family tree, and you would like to include them, please send us that information.
