Two weeks ago, a strange and wonderful thing happened. W42ST went viral.

We still have no idea how it happened, and have so far been unable to replicate it, but for a full three days, we were the Hell’s Kitchen equivalent of the Backstreet Boys reuniting in their living rooms, or The Rock doing … well, basically anything.

Our story about how the current rent crisis in New York City is leading to an exodus clearly hit a nerve. Get ready for some stats, people (we’re all about the data now we’re digital only).

The Facebook post reached 1M readers.

It was shared more than 300 times, with more than 300 comments.

It was read by 64,000 people in places as diverse as Kerala, Dubai, and Singapore.

So we’ve had a play – because coronavirus has left us with time on our hands and the world doesn’t need anymore sourdough starters – and turned it into a video (that’s Yours Truly doing the narration, and Kevin Hou working his magic on the visuals). Get in touch and let me know what you think. Would you like to see us do more video?

NEW YORK STORIES
Social distancing has been hard on everyone. But for the sex-positive and kink communities, where physical touch is pretty high on the to-do list, adapting to digital has been a steep learning curve. This weekend we're talking sex parties, zoom orgies, and how the business of sex work is getting creative. Read more here. Yes, I did just say ZOOM ORGIES!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEANNE
Yes, Leanne Buckley, I mean you! This year, sadly, you won’t be able to do your favorite things (dinner, a show, drinks, and – hello sailor! – Fleet Week), but I hope your quarantine birthday is full of joy and fun and unexpected treats. And that goes for anyone else whose birthday it is this weekend. JOHN TOHM – I see you! Kisses to your handsome face.

If you know anyone having an isolated birthday, let me know, and I’ll help you make it a little more special.
