tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

📅 Taking back control. It's easy to let your work-from-home schedule get a bit crazy. Learn how to restructure your day with tips such as batch replying to messages, setting a start and end time everyday, and treating yourself in the morning.

🖥️ Streamlining our workspace. After tidying up your calendar, move on to
hiding those messy and unsightly computer cords. Organize your desk with cable organizer clips, cord protectors, and more.

💌 Supporting other women.
The Letter Project is a nonprofit organization that write letters to girls around the world who are in need of extra love and support. Share a sweet message with a new gal pal to show that you're rooting for her!

☀️ Making everyday count. We're always hearing about morning and night routines, but what about
a good mid-day routine? Try taking a full lunch break and prioritizing your to-do lists to stay productive and happy all day long.

For when it's Pumpkin Spice Latte season already ~ Seasonal coffee drinks and all things Fall start creepin' in earlier every year, but do we even care anymore?: "August 25 is not a day that is particularly known for feeling especially crisp or autumnal in most parts of North America. And yet it’s the day in 2020 — the earliest release date so far — that Starbucks chose to unleash its annual run of pumpkin spice lattes upon its customers. Contempt for the PSL and other items of the seasonal pumpkin spice variety is often not really about the flavor itself. After all, there are plenty of other flavors we should all be way more furious about ... The PSL is doing something right: It’s Starbucks’ most popular seasonal beverage, with about 424 million sold worldwide. The fact that the pumpkin spice latte — which, to many, conjures the scents and imagery of Thanksgiving — is released in increasingly hot weather year after year is often touted as an ominous harbinger of the evil forces of seasonal creep ... Anyway, this is all to say that maybe by now pumpkin spice has finally returned to signifying the autumnal blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves, and nothing more: not basic, not everything wrong with capitalism, and not gross. Because it’s not! It’s delicious."

RELATIONSHIPS  For when the rules of dating have changed ~ Pay attention, friends, because these unprecedented times are coming with a whole new dating handbook: "For some, love in the time of COVID-19 is a bit like having been proverbially sent to your room, and in turn, denied the pleasures of sex and dating on the whole. For others, it’s quite the opposite: An all-in, bar-nothing edition of partnership (in which you and your significant other spend every waking moment living, working, eating, and sleeping within the same apartment). In short, present tense romance is a strange beast. Here’s your behind-the-Zoom-curtain peek at what it’s like to confront matters of sex and dating for a living, in the midst of both a global pandemic and a social revolution. Generally, if you’re living in close quarters, I encourage couples to take turns going out for the day. If you can, take your laptop to the park and sit and work there. Couples, even the happiest couples, need space ... For single people, dating is still happening, but it’s happening in a really different way. Something as casual and simple as a first date requires people to spend some time thinking about their values and what matters to them and what kind of relationship they want to have."

FOOD NEWS  For when you want a burger, hold the beef ~ Plant-based meats are hitting the mainstream market in a big way, so it only makes sense that two of the biggest brands are now delivering straight to your door: "Plant-based meat is doing big business during the pandemic — and it’s about to get even bigger. Beyond Meat has launched a new e-commerce site that allows you to order its meatless products, including the popular Beyond Burger, right to your door. Starting Thursday, you no longer have to get your faux-meat from a grocery store or restaurant. You can order it online directly from the company and let it come to you. Beyond Meat’s main competitor, Impossible Foods, debuted its own direct-to-consumer e-commerce site in June ... For all these reasons, it’s exciting that the rise of meatless meat has been meteorically fast, going in a few years from the niche purview of vegans and vegetarians to mainstream acceptance and even devoted fandom. Three years ago, few people were talking about Beyond Meat or Impossible Foods. Now many foodies see their products as not merely tolerable but actually trendy." #HappyMeatlessMonday

SELF  For when your thoughts can change your life ~ Aka manifesting. Although, true manifestation requires you to take concrete actions towards your hopes and dreams as well: "So what does a true manifestation practice look like? First, you form a very clear, specific goal and outcome. 'I think we have to be very clear with our intention. The more specific we can be, the easier it is to make something happen,' [Sarah Potter, a tarot reader, professional witch, and color magic practitioner based in New York City] explains. But your dream doesn't have to feel realistic, necessarily. Potter says if you get very clear with your intentions, you can make anything you want happen. When I asked her what she meant by anything, (like, anything?) she clarified, 'I think you should dream as big as you possibly can.' Once you're crystal-clear on your intention, you'll need to implement those actions ... Trying to manifest something isn't actively harmful, and attempting to make your dreams come true using a combination of your thoughts and proactive actions won't hurt you. So why not try it out? As you begin your journey into manifesting your desires, don't be too hard on yourself."
