May Newsletter

Hello from all of us at ADR.  We hope all the doxie moms out there had a wonderful Mother's Day with their Fur Babies!  Spirits are up as May has had some lovely weather and things are starting to open back up.  We hope everyone starts moving back into things in a safe and healthy manner.

With spring come lawns and gardens.  Remember that bees aren't the only ones affected by weedkillers.  Be careful about which products you use as herbicides as well as insecticides and other chemicals around your yard.  Little paws should be kept off all treated areas for the prescribed period of time and, just to be safe, use pet friendly products whenever possible.

Check out our new section below "ADR Community Corner" where we will be featuring birthdays, news and updates of our adopted dogs.  To have your ADR dog featured in our newsletter, send a picture and the update to adrescuenews@gmail.com.

On June 2 we will be hosting another online training webinar put on by dog trainer Cindy Peacock.  This one is titled "Taming the Overprotective Pooch".  This session is full of great information, Cindy is a great host and extremely knowledgable so we invite you to sign up and joig us.  And, being a great friend of ADR, 50% of the ticket cost will be donated to ADR - thanks Cindy!  We hope you will join us - sign up on the events section of our FB page or via the following link:

Feature Volunteer

Tom and Lianne!!!
ADR would not exist without the tireless efforts of Tom and Lianne Edwards.  These two give completely selflessly of themselves to help out our dachshund friends and their families.  Each week they devote hours and hours of volunteer time to meet the unrelenting demands of running a rescue.  On top of that, their home is aways open to fosters, sometimes many at a time!!
A huge thank you to Tom and Lianne - your efforts are recognized and appreciated.  The world needs more good people like you.  :)

FUN FACT:
All dogs can have allergic reactions to insect bites and stings.  Given that bees and other insects look like delicious treats to many dogs, with summer comes the risk of allergic reactions.  Watch for local swelling and problems breathing if your dachshund gets bitten by a spider or stung by a bee or wasp and get to a vet as soon as possible if your dog is showing signs of difficulty. Talk to your vet, as many will recommend keeping children's Benadryl on hand after the first bite /sting as, just like humans, the reaction can get worse and come on faster with each time a sting happens.

ADR Community Corner
The ADR Community corner is our place to share updates, birthdays, outings, news and adorable photos of our ADR alumni.  Send pictures and updates of your furry family members to adrescuenews@gmail.com to be included in next month's newsletter.

Happy 4th Birthday to Phoenix!!

We are so proud of these two ADR alumni who both passed their agility certifications in May.  Have fun Roxy and Choie (Cholo) tearing up the agility course!

How much fun are these two, also both ADR alumni, having on their own carriage ride.  Hugo and Blue are lucky to live on a farm and they get first class transportation.
