June 2020 Update

Update from Beth Chesed
In our yard we cultivate something that we call fig bananas.  They are like an appetizer that you eat in the morning.

When they are green, you can boil them - but when they are yellow, you can just eat them without boiling. The children love it the most when they are yellow, and for this is the reason we always let them turn into yellow before eating them.

.Beside all good news we have been sharing with you, there is a sad one. A few weeks ago, while we were buying everything that we would need to help us stay home, we filled 5 tanks of propane gas to cook.  As we know that the gas will last three months, we decided to buy some charcoal to supplement the gas. Late in the night after we stocked the shed, one of our children smelled something burning.  Out of curiosity, he went outside to see what it could be and he saw our depot on fire. This is where we store all our tools and building materials. We lost everything in that little depot. The problem was because of one of the sacks of charcoal had a little fire in it and we couldn't see the depot burning.

Praise Adonai, we were able to put out the fire before it spread to the other house.

Meet Utile Steve
Steve is 19 years old and came to the orphanage in 2011 after His mother and father died.

He is very smart and does well in school and is our first child who will finish high school next year. Steve is a photo designer, and is the person who made the movie we shared in May's newsletter, “The Ten Plagues of Egypt”.

As he doesn't have anyone to help him, we would like to work a project to help him pay his university education.

Watch: How We Celebrate Shabbat!

From Our Director Hernst

As you may know, the border between Haiti and Dominican Republic has been closed for over a month. Haitian people count on Dominicans to feed their children. Thanks to the donations we received, we bought enough food in April to last about three months and we should have enough to last into July. What we grow in our garden helps to supplement the food we buy our children. The garden that we grow here is seasonal.
However, It is sunny and very hot in Haiti right now and our garden is dying. The pump that we use to water the garden had a little problem and needed to be fixed.  Then, one day we all decided to use a gallon of water to water the garden - the young ones and the little ones too.  They enjoyed doing it so much that we decided to wake up every morning to water the garden until we fixed our pump!

Praise Adonai, the boss was able to fix the pump and now we are watering the garden in our normal way.

Projects & Prayer Requests
for Beth Chesed Orphanage
  1. Steady monthly donations that match or exceed Beth Chesed's monthly expenses.
  2. A bus so that more of our kids can attend private school next year.
  3. A home for the director's family:  When there are no guests in the orphanage, Director Hernst, his wife Vania, their sweet daughter, Herline, and brand new baby boy Valensky use the space above the kitchen as their living area. Otherwise their living quarters is the area above the office which they outgrew. It is heavy on our hearts that these unselfish vessels finally have a proper home for retreat and refuge.
Thank you!
However you are led, we thank you for sharing our heart for the work Abba is doing in Haiti!
