"Be Pet Prepared"
It is so easy this time of year to be out and about enjoying sunny days hiking and camping, or swimming and boating in your favorite river or lake with your 4-legged BFF.  This year it seems even so much more special after weeks of staying safe by staying home. Those of us who live in northern California and southern Oregon know that while summer weather can be gorgeous and a time for fun with our dogs it can also bring with it the potential for wildfires. That is why we want to kick off our “Be Pet Prepared” campaign this month to highlight the need to be ready to care for our pets in case of an emergency or natural disaster. It only takes a short time to create an emergency plan for yourself and your pets and it can prove to be lifesaving.
On June 14th at 11:00 we will be kicking off our “Be Pet Prepared” campaign in conjunction with re-starting our free Sunday morning dog training and dog social hour at the ranch. As most of you know at Rescue Ranch we have the space to provide appropriate social distance measures while training and teaching you how to have the best relationship with your dog. The “Be Pet Prepared” program is an important part of your relationship with your dog and the only one in California currently supported through a grant from the Listos California Disaster Preparedness campaign.
The Be Pet Prepared training will include distribution of the official California   Listos California Disaster Ready Guide which is a handy at-a-glance resource for being ready for wildfire or other emergencies. Attendees at our 15-20 minute training at the ranch will also be provided  a “Be Pet Prepared” checklist (handy to have on the frig) , Pets in Home window sticker, Pets on Property yard sign, and a coupon for a free microchip to be provided at future microchip clinics. And do not despair our Oregon friends, all this information is totally applicable and can be customized for where you live in southern Oregon.

If you think you would like to attend the first of many “Be Pet Prepared” classes on June 14th at 11:00, we would appreciate a RSVP.  Send an email to lfinley@rrdog.org or message us on Facebook page with your interest in attending.  If you would like additional information before attending the class you can contact us through these two methods as well.
If you are unable to attend this “Be Pet Prepared” training and want to get started there are great online resources.  One of the best is https://www.ready.gov/pets with links to many resources. We particularly like the short 4 minute YouTube video

More About Listos California
Listos California is a statewide campaign (currently up in 24 counties) established last year by Governor Newsom and state legislators, anchored in the state’s Office of Emergency Services,  that aims to boost disaster preparedness among diverse and vulnerable Californians by connecting them to relevant, easy to take disaster readiness steps, through a grassroots, people-centered approach. United Way of Northern California is partnering with Rescue Ranch Yreka and many Siskiyou County non profits to bring emergency preparedness information and trainings to rural and often hard to reach residents, most vulnerable to disasters like wildfires.

If you live in Siskiyou County and want to be kept up to date with Emergency Preparedness, whether fire, flood, or earthquake just TEXT Readysiskiyou to 898211, or go to the 211norcal.org webpage and click on Siskiyou for more information.
