Hello Lovely People,

How have you been enjoying the weather? I know many of you have been making the most of the increased freedoms and better weather and once again your smiling faces are filling Facebook with training adventures and virtual racing.

I’m not a fan of the phrase “new normal” as the situation is no longer new and the tribe are far from what can be considered normal! Once again the proactive nature, willingness to get involved, and adaptability are shining through and even if we can’t race or train as a group I think the camaraderie of doing things collectively, albeit at a distance is ever present in the Tribe.

What will you find below?

While we wait further information from BTF we will continue with the current programme of Zoom training sessions which have been an excellent addition to our coaching output; there is more detail on these below and what you can expect if you haven’t already joined in..

As we get more opportunities to exercise outside you’ll obviously want to be seen in your best Tribe colours and Sarah Douglas has provided some information on getting your hands on club kit and this month we’ve also got an introduction article from our Social Secretary, Patricia.

Remember that although this is a quiet period for triathlon your club is always here doing the business in the background.  Your committee continues to work and we have also utilised Zoom to conduct the administration that keeps us functioning.  Please let us know about the things you are getting up to and if the club can do anything differently for you, or if you have a suggestion for a future article.

In the meantime, keep safe, alert, smiling and I hope to see you out and about.

Introducing our Social Secretary

Patricia Penteado - Social Secretary

I hope everyone is keeping well in lockdown and great to hear that we have now been able to start exercising more. I just wanted to introduce myself (a bit overdue I know..). I am Portuguese and living in the UK for thirty years, I have just moved to Southsea after living in the Cotswolds and London. My past were horses where I was social secretary to a club then membership secretary for the Lusitano Breed Society for a few years.
Before I moved here I was part of the team Trimax for two years in Gloucestershire. I helped on the running of Triathlons, Gloucester Marathon, Trail runs and Mud Runs. I was a member of the Gloucestershire Tri Team, Passion Fit and Kingsway Running club
I am a newbie to running as I was told that I would never be able to run and only started in 2015. I was swimming at that time, so when I started helping at Trimax I thought I could give that a go… so I did a few Sprint Triathlons, Half Marathons amongst many other runs.. I did the Olympic distance Forest of Dean Triathlon.. Over here I did Goodwood Duathlon, Half Distance swim with Tribal and the half of the Coastal Marathon..  I have been recovering from an injury that has taken too long and just started to run and swim again.. I hope to get back into it again and to do a Triathlon when possible.
I am really enjoying being part of such a friendly Club that is the Portsmouth Tri Club and all the lovely members and coaches.

Update on Kit from Sarah Douglas

For those who purchased kit on the last Pactimo order thank you very much for your patience! As the rules now allow us to meet with one person from another household outside, I can finally begin to distribute the kit!
Pending any changes to lockdown, I will be back in Portsmouth by Wednesday 3rd June, to arrange collection, please email clubkit@portsmouthtriathletes.co.uk to arrange a date and time.

Sarah Douglas

From A Zoomer

Tribe Zooming

When did the word Zoom pop into your life? One minute the ability to connect with others through video was confined to Skye at work and mainly Whats App or Facebook for ‘personal’ connections. Using the words Whats App and Facebook probably gives away my age, family status and a whole host of other clues. If I were to use Tik Tok, I’d be taking a decade off my age.

So Zoom popped up as the quick way to connect in the first few days of ‘lock down’. Whoever created Zoom beat Face book groups and Google Meets to the forefront of our conversation. Our super coaching team were hot off the online start line and quickly a range of Zooming sessions started to pop up on the Facebook club feed. Who knew we had such tech savvy coaches

Planted firmly in our weekly lock down routine are the twice weekly Zoom spin sessions, the Tuesday post spin strength and core session and the renowned Saturday morning but killer strength and core sessions. We then went international with Thursday night coaching from Pete Campbell in New Zealand. Pete’s sessions were hard, especially when he introduced the Spin /Gym session. Get off your bike and do some press ups! Some mutterings of transition training as we remove the shoes, lunge, press or squat, then shoes on and pedal some more.

The NZ zoom sessions accommodated the 8pm clap to say a massive thank you to those people who continue to keep our world running while the awful virus creeps through us as a silent predator. As New Zealand came out of lock down our coaches Jo and Alex took back the lead and Thursday spin by Zoom continues.

Online training sessions have continued to bring the Tribe together. Coaches guide us through cadence training and hill reps, get us to work the butt (yep Saturday morning with Lesley forces is to find our butt muscles) and to catch up with others.

Thank you to the coaches and thanks to those who Zoom in.

Keep safe and keep zooming.

Allez Aqua Open Water Coaching

Due to the current situation we cannot run our usual group Open Water sessions BUT we can run some 1:1 coached sessions.

So if you want to start your OW journey but feel you need some support and advice or you are feeling a little rusty and want some advice in polishing your existing technique or want learn a few tips for a better race day experience then send us a message via our face book page ‘Allez Aqua Open Water Coaching’ or contact either Alex Campbell or Lesley Quiney via messenger.

Days/times are dependent on availability of both parties so send us a message. The cost for these sessions is £10 for half hour. We will do a telephone/face time conversation prior to session to discuss some of the health and safety stuff before meeting up for your swim.

We look forward to seeing some of you down by the sea.
