To all members of the Mosholu Preservation Corporation Community,
I so deeply want to get this message right. But my time reflecting this week has led me to believe that right now, it’s not about getting something perfect or having the exact words, it is about not staying silent. To all of those hurting, especially those in the Black community, know that we at Mosholu Preservation and the Jerome Gun Hill BID stand with you and support your right to be seen and heard. I won't pretend to fully understand what you're going through, the injustice you face, or the lack of security you feel daily.
Instead, as an organization whose mission it is to empower local economies, made up largely of black and people of color, I believe that we have a responsibility to take action and stand with the communities that we serve. We commit to support and elevate the voices and needs of our local Black and Brown owned small businesses, spend our own procurement dollars locally to keep wealth in the Bronx, create and maintain infrastructure for the benefit of our communities of color and report unbiased, hyperlocal news to keep our neighbors informed. But I also know how important it is to listen and learn when people with lived experiences are speaking.
We must do both in order to truly do the work to make this week, and every week that comes after it, better. Please know that our doors are always open, and we are here ready to listen, learn and continue to do the necessary work for change.
Justice is not a relative term. There is no grey area. We will continue to use our voice and platform to make progress together.
Thank you.
