Calgary Ukrainian Festival: We are beyond excited to invite you to CUF's First Ever Virtual Festival! Due to these difficult times, we are unable to meet in person for our 11th Anniversary Festival but that won't stop us from connecting as a community and sharing our love of Ukrainian culture online. We are bringing the festival to you on June 13th & 14th.

A few exciting things you can expect from our online Festival weekend:
- Virtual performers
- A 'physically distant' kitchen Zabava (dance party)
- Food & Drink specials
- Workshops
- Online shopping from our incredible vendors
- More to come!

Thank you for your support during these uncertain times. We hope this online Festival will be a way for us to come together as a community and show the strength that comes from working with one another. We can't wait to have you be a part of our First Ever Virtual Festival!

Ukrainian Canadian Congress Alberta Provincial Council (UCCAPC) is hosting an online event from June 1st to the 20th in an effort to commemorate the centenary of the end of WWI Internment Operations in Canada. The event takes place virtually on all social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter @UCC_APC, Instagram, and UCC-APCwebsite https://uccab.ca/.
The social media handle for this event is #Internment100.
100 years ago Ukrainian immigrants, along with other Eastern European immigrants such as Poles, Germans, Croats, Serbs, Hungarians, and others, were confined to forced labour and internment camps across Canada based only on their countries of origin. June 20, 2020, will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the WWI national internment operations that took place in Canada from 1914 to 1920. During the 20-day period, UCC-APC will be sharing online daily segments to honour the internees and help inform our wider community of this little-known event in Canadian history. This is a joint effort of the Ukrainian community in Canada and we ask you to support this initiative by sharing our daily posts. UCC-APC will also publish daily e-newsletters during this time – please sign up by going to the uccab.ca website.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM UCC NATIONAL:
Applications for funding from the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) are now open. The ECSF is part of the Government of Canada’s response to the Covid-19 crisis. The UCC strongly encourages organizations who are implementing Covid-19 response programming to consider applying for funding. The ECSF is being jointly administered by three organizations, who are responsible for accepting and assessing applications from qualifying community organizations. Which partner should I apply to:
  1. Community Foundations of Canada – Qualified donees can apply through the Community Foundations of Canada to their local communication foundations: https://cfc-fcc.smapply.ca/prog/ECSF/
  2. United Way is accepting applications from charities through their local branches across Canada. In some cases, local United Way Centraide members may also support non-profit organizations through an appropriate trustee relationship with a qualified donee. To find your organization’s local branch and how to apply through the United Way, please see here: https://www.unitedway.ca/blog/ecsf/ Please note: Deadlines for submitting applications through the United Way differ by local branch.
  3. Canadian Red Cross – applications through the Canadian Red Cross are available here: Canadian Red Cross - A national granting stream will be managed alongside regional and local partners to support non-profit org www.redcross.ca/communityorganizations
The new deadline for submission is June 30, 2020.

Message from the UCC-APC: "In 1998, the UCC-Alberta Provincial Council initiated an Annual Hetman Awards to acknowledge significant volunteer achievements of outstanding Ukrainian Albertans.

The Annual Hetman Awards are dedicated to the celebration of all volunteers who have chosen to give their time, effort and expertise in order to keep our Ukrainian Canadian community in Alberta strong, vibrant and active.

In 2020 new recognition category was added – Professional Achievement Award. The UCC-APC recognizes that many members within and beyond our community make substantial, positive impacts on Ukrainian issues through their professional work.
