It's been a hot week. Stinking hot. The monsoon is on it's way, but for now we are stuck with extreme heat and high humidity. To offset the heat, and wash away some of the sweat, there has been an endless water fight going on here. You can pretty much guarantee that someone, somewhere on the campus is having a cup, jug or bucket of water thrown on them by a friend who's just looking out for their buddy.

Ebyon and some of the other boys enjoying a splash in the garden.
There is no better place to be than under the hose!
Malik needed a little help getting into it.
Aaron brought out the bubble machine, then the party really started.
Malik quickly warmed up to the idea of a water fight.
Raj managed to fan-dangle a big bubble.
Um... you okay Rajesh?!
Ebyon, Vishal and Vishwajeet lathered up and ready for a rinse.
Jessica and Kelly's water fights in the kitchen rarely end.
Sometimes one of the farm's water pumps is a fun place for a play.

We're excited to see our Staff Accommodation moving closer and closer to completion. With the promise of the monsoon in just a few weeks, we shifted in a whole lot of new soil, raising the land around the entire building. It was a huge job to get checked off our list, and fantastic to get done before the monsoon (as the rains will help settle the land).

Rick and Eugene overseeing the shifting of soil around the construction site.
Sunny dumping a big load of good top soil.
Watch out for that septic tank!
The new soil already had some rain on it with a morning shower on Saturday.
Sunny setting in some hanging space in the wardrobes.
Ganesh working away steadily at the furniture.
Our tiler pretty much finished up his contract.
Clifton returning from a walk with some of the kids up to see the new building.

The big birthday this week was Rajesh's. It's hard to believe that this young man is now 17 years old! We remember the day he was brought through our gates - one of the cutest 3 year olds we have ever seen. Now, so many years later, we are proud of the young man that he is becoming. Happy birthday buddy!

Gathering together for Rajesh's party.
Take a big breath mate!
Pinky made a guitar on his cake.
Kamal handing out chips to everyone.
Parwat and Raymond enjoying their snacks.
We have Rajesh's sponsors to thank for such a great party.
Lisa had her cake and ate Clifton's too.
Ajay, Seeya and Cynthia enjoying the celebration.
The only other birthday party we celebrated this week was the 1st birthday party of the daughter of one of our supporters from Mumbai. With their help we held a little party, ate some lovely food and celebrated through the afternoon. It is always lovely when people choose to honor us in this way, happy birthday little one!
Chicken curry, parpadams, salad, cold drinks and ice cream! Yum!
Our boys sure know how to eat!

We mentioned Rick's biogas cooker in last week's newsletter and we are happy to report that it is doing great. The kitchen girls worked hard on Monday and put together some aloo-parathas for the entire group; the new cooker did a perfect job with them. If you've never had an aloo-paratha, it's a potato filled fried flatbread that makes for a perfect afternoon snack.

Kushboo helping roll the parathas.
Making these takes some skill.
The new cooker.
A nice stack of parathas.

The next few shots are just some random takeaways from the week. There is almost always something happening around the campus, however this week Parwat and Clifton missed a lot of it due to work on other upcoming projects. Hopefully these few shots will help to fill in some of the gaps in this week's newsletter.

Stella hard at work digging up a flower garden.
Rosie - that is a laundry tub, not a bathtub.
Corinna has an exciting change coming next week.
She will be participating in a National Geographic Photocamp Online!
Here's a bee, landing on one of our rice paddy plants.
And here are the cutest little buttons to end this newsletter.

Thanks again to all of you for your prayers and support. We're still happy to report that all is safe and sound here on The Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission. Another 7 days of lockdown behind us, who knows how many more ahead!

Blessing on you,
Rick, Clifton, Eugene & Priscilla

For Those Who Pray:
  • Pray we get as much work as possible done in the new accommodation building before the monsoon hits.
  • Pray we are able to get our Summer Paddy (Summer Rice) crop harvested before the heavy rains of the monsoon make field work impossible.
