MY LAST NOTES TO YOU AS PRESIDENT:

AUXILIARY PRESIDENTS
Please make sure you have polled your delegates and sent me an email (olemissfan2@telepak.net) with how your Auxiliary is voting for the candidates for Conductress and Guard by Friday, June 12, 2020, by 9:00 PM otherwise your auxiliary will not have a voice in who we elect. I will be calling Saturday to double check with you on votes if no email. The votes do not need to be broken down by delegates unless your Auxiliary is splitting the delegate vote.  If you have not sent any audits to Department Treasurer, Benita Lyman your Auxiliary is unable to vote. Benita needs your list of delegates sent to her also for her records – there are no delegate fees this year.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ALTERNATE VOTE FOR GUARD IN CASE THERE IS A RUNOFF AND YOUR CANDIDATE IS NOT IN THAT RUNOFF. ALSO GIVE ME A NUMBER TO CALL SUNDAY TO ASK YOU FOR THAT INFORMATION OR PUT IT IN YOUR EMAIL TO ME.
I WILL HAVE THE VOTES AND AT TIME OF ELECTION WILL GIVE EACH DISTRICT PRESIDENT THEIR AUXILIARY VOTES, WHEN CALLED UPON BY VOICE VOTE THEY WILL TELL THE AUXILIARY NUMBER AND HOW IT VOTED.  ALL LINE OFFICERS THAT WANT TO VOTE SEPARATELY CAN DO SO AT THAT TIME.  ALL PDP’S WILL VOTE BY EMAIL UNLESS THEY ARE IN ATTENDANCE AT THIS MEETING.

Our final Council of Administration/Convention will be a one day event held Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Conference Room at War Memorial Building in Jackson MS.  This will be a meeting for council members only due to covid19 restrictions based on Governor’s edicts.  Space is limited to 29 participants – these will consist of Line Officers, 2019/2020 Council of Administration members, the five candidates for office, Credentials Committee/Judge and tellers (they will be same three people) and newly elected District Presidents for 2020/2021.

There will be a Zoom (Cloud HD Video Meeting) connection for this meeting also for those who want to see what we are doing and are not able to attend.

Kim has the information for Zoom hookup on a separate sheet in this mail out.

Everything about this Council of Administration and Convention is different so do not expect it to be “The way we have always done it!”.

Aletta Butler will graciously allow me at the Council of Administration meeting set for the first weekend in August the opportunity to finish out part of my year that would usually be done at the annual convention.  We wanted the Auxiliaries to have a chance to be recognized for all of your hard work therefore the Ambassadors will award their end of year awards/winners at that time. The Annual Book of Reports will be given out at this time.  I will also be giving out some awards and gifts – we will be letting you know in a July newsletter exactly what we will be doing on Saturday morning August 1, 2020.

The whole last part of my year has been different but y’all have helped me pull it together and continued to work for our Veterans.

We have been unable to get in the VA’s and Nursing Homes but hopefully they know we have not abandoned them.  Last week Benita sent me a suggestion and she and I made an Executive decision to send each VA Hospital and Nursing Home’s Activities Fund monies.  We suspended payments in April to our VAVS reps when we were not allowed to go to the hospitals or nursing homes when Governor ordered his stay-home edicts.  At that time the Representatives were advised that if the facilities asked for assistance we would send the Activities Director monies for our Veterans.  We sent each VA Hospital Activity Fund a Love offering of $300 and each VA Nursing Home Activity Fund a Love offering of $150.

To each of my Ambassadors – thank you for your continued work for our Veterans and their families throughout the year. Our numbers were down on some of the reports from last year but this was a screwy year especially during the last few months. I think we had an awesome year despite the “Rona”.

To my Officers – those elected by the members and those that were appointed by me - Thanks for all the assistance throughout the year – you did whatever I needed and whenever I needed it no matter what it was.  Judy Peacock, Aletta Butler and Laurie Williamson the three of you went beyond the call – answered all my questions, had my back in every decision (both easy and hard) I made and kept me going when I wasn’t sure I had it in me to continue. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Kim Trochessett you get a double no triple thanks, you helped me (and the Department) out of a jam in December by becoming the Department Secretary {we learned together}, loaning me your husband for a year as my Commander, group texts with Aletta and Judy in middle of the night like teenagers, sending memos/mail outs with me just telling you gist of what I needed [even though I never got a copy]. Thanks girl – and I see a lot of Auxiliary responsibility in your future!

To you the Auxiliary members – Thank you for putting your faith in me six years ago when you elected me your Department Guard, and then continuing to have faith in me by voting me through the chairs to the last one in June 2019. I hope I have met your expectations as I have worked to the best of my ability to help and aid our fight for a better life for our Veterans who have served this great country and those that are still actively serving.

Pictures of my installation popped up in my Memories on Facebook this morning and like I posted it was bittersweet as it had been a roller coaster ride. I hope I have been one you have been able to come to with problems and also the joys of what we have done and accomplished throughout the years.  I have grown to love each and every one of you as a sister and brother working for our Veterans.

As Bob Hope always said “Thanks for the Memories” of this year and may God Bless the USA and each of you.

Candidate for Department Guard
I mistakenly left out Jodie Denley's letter in the email with the other candidates.  Her letter is below:

Hello everyone my name is Jodie Denley. I am a Life Member. I am currently the Americanism Chairman at VFW Auxiliary Post 5571 in Bruce, MS.  I am the appointed Department Americanism Ambassador for the ensuing year. I am announcing my candidacy for Department Guard for this ensuing year.
I joined the Auxiliary in 2019. My father and grandfather are my inspiration to serve and help Veterans. I feel honor and pride everyday I am able to help Veterans. I would appreciate your vote for me. It would be my honor to be of service.

Respectfully
Jodie Denley
