Spence Peak Trail is Open For Business!

Dirt Mechanics and Terra Velo Consulting, our professional trail building partners from Bend, just completed another successful expansion at Spence Mountain. Fortunately they were able to operate thru COVID-19 restrictions due to their small crew size, where social distancing is the norm.  After months of work the Spence Peak trail is now open top to bottom!

Spence Peak is a gradual 5 mile climb up the northwest slope of Spence Mountain through a mixed forest with amazing views of Mt McLoughlin, Mountain Lakes Wilderness and Upper Klamath Lake - it will no doubt become another signature trail.

A less publicized trail called Peak Tie will open soon too.  No less spectacular, Peak Tie is a 1.3 mile green or easy trail allowing a shorter loop option out of the Shoalwater trailhead. With the addition of these two new trails our network has grown to 42 miles!  Check our website for updated maps or we recommend Trailforks app for way finding in the field.

Trail Maintenance

In light of Klamath County's successful reopening of COVID-19 restrictions KTA plans to ease back into public trail maintenance.  Groups will be limited to 10 people, 6’ social distancing and no tool sharing. Our first event will be Saturday, June 13th in Moore Park. Because we are limiting group size to 10 participants we ask that everyone sign up through KTA’s Meetup site.  This way people can see a running list and the number of folks that have confirmed.  If you have any questions feel free to message us at info@klamathtrails.org.

Trail Maintenance Events Scheduled:
Saturday, June 13th at Moore Park, 7:45 am - noon
Wednesday, June 17th at Geo Trail, 8:00 am - 11:30 am

New Kiosk at Shoalwater Trailhead

Thanks to a small crew of folks we now have a beautiful kiosk at our Shoalwater Bay Trailhead.  Constructed of 12 x 12 pressure treated posts, the kiosk is an exact replica of the Spence Mountain kiosk and the Eulalona kiosk.  It should be around for years to come thanks to the robust design by King Burgett.  Our master builder was Michael Schaaf aided by volunteers Bill Kennedy and Drew Honzel. Thanks also to Marilyn Kennedy, Elwyn Jacobson and Mark Goodman for helping spread cinders.

Fred Meyer's Community Rewards & AmazonSmile Helps KTA!

If you shop at Fred Meyer or Amazon you could be helping KTA with your purchases. There are “no strings attached” other than having to set-up an online account if you don’t have one.
A frequently asked question about the Fred Meyer charity program is whether you lose your reward points by naming a charity.  The simple answer is NO. Here is a link to the frequently asked questions and information on how to link your rewards card. Last year we had 11 households that named KTA (organization number: CH538) as their non-profit generating $45 in donations per quarter.

AmazonSmile is also simple to set-up. Follow this link to support of Klamath Trails Alliance or this link for more information.  With Amazon you will need to place your order on the AmazonSmile site in order in to generate contributions back to KTA.
