A personal message from the Chair of Trustees

The 5th Anniversary of the Friends is fast approaching and we are considering marking the occasion on St Giles’ Day this year in some way. We have achieved an awful lot in those five years.
The highlights are:
57,494 Pounds raised (2015-19) - most from outside the electoral roll
17,606 Pounds spent on capital projects and fees (2015-19)
20,000 Pounds (approx) pledged towards current projects
84 Pence for every Pound donated going to our Projects (the national average for charities is around 74p and few push above 80)
42 Friends (at highest count)
... and much more!
We have a comprehensive plan for the upgrading and improving of St Giles’ drawn up by an expert architect and all is set for parts of that going ahead with proper funding and permissions. Getting this plan in place was the big goal for the Friends five years ago and we have achieved that and so much more (movie nights, beer gardens, garden parties, exhibitions, concerts etc. etc.). That is really not bad at all and I thank you both hugely for being a part of that.
With this milestone and the completion of our goal to have these plans in place, I feel that it is time for me to concentrate on helping the Friends and the church itself on fundraising alone and hand over the Chair of Trustees to someone who can grow and shape the Friends further. This is not just a time to start the long hard slog towards raising almost a million pounds for the church (don’t worry, not by tomorrow and I want to help with that!) but for the Friends themselves to find a role within that and within the framework of the church. There have been lots of suggestions and past project ideas which I have simply not had the energy to give my full attention to, for which I am sorry. Now we need to hunt for a fresh face to develop these and others. Contact me, personally, if you are interested or want further information jfm39@cam.ac.uk

We would also like to continue our work on the re-imagining of St Giles'. After much consultation we are now in the phase where we can commission advice from Structural and Service Engineers, Building Control experts and Health & Safety professionals. The lowest quote we have for this work is £14,510, plus reclaimable VAT and we have started thinking about who to approach for support. Initially only approx. a third of that sum is required to bring us forward.
