Youth Music Updates
Black Lives Matter

Last week Youth Music put out a statement in relation to the recent police brutality in the USA. We also compiled a list of important information to read relating to racism and white privilege which is on the Youth Music Network. We would encourage this to be read and shared.

Our Youth Engagement Officer Domenica wrote a personal letter to our Next Gen readers, our e-newsletter for young creatives interested in a career in the music industry. We felt it was important to share her thoughts more widely. Read her letter here.

Opinions pieces from our CEO Matt Griffiths were published in Arts Professional and Music Ed UK. These highlight that it is crucial that the drive for inclusivity and diversity begins at school. It should also be prioritised now within the music industry. We recommend watching this webinar Decolonising the Music Curriculum.

We are committed to keeping inclusion at the very top of our agenda and will continue to campaign for change alongside young people. Inclusion shouldn't be a token gesture of one-off project - it should be embedded in all our practices. We welcome feedback so that we can do more and do better.

Youth Music Network User Survey - We want your thoughts now!

Whether you're a regular user of the site or have only been on it a handful of times, we would love to hear your thoughts! This will help us in improving everything about the Youth Music Network.

Everyone who completes this survey will be entered into a draw to win a £50 Uber Eats gift voucher! We'll announce the winner on Fri 26 June. Link will take you to the Survey Monkey website.

The Youth Music Network is an online community and resources platform for people who work in and around music education projects in the UK.

Looking for some new music gear?

We have partnered with Musicroom.com for the another #Buytogive campaign.

During June, 1% of sales made on Musicroom.com of selected instruments and accessories will be donated to Youth Music!

The current coronavirus crisis has hit grassroots music organisations like those funded by Youth Music particularly hard. With your help, Youth Music can provide even more support for vital projects that invest in young people, helping to develop the next generation of music makers.

Need This, Have That

We are doing a regular Need This, Have That Feature, for people who have equipment to loan or are seeking something from others. We encourage you to post on the Youth Music Network initially, and then we will share information here. Currently we still have offers of guitars (located in Hertfordshire) and Music Fusion (Havant) seeking equipment for a 'studio in a box.'

As previously mentioned, you'll need to make sure any lending is done in the safest way possible, that everything is thoroughly cleaned and left for 72 hours before use and that you have clear arrangements in place with your swap partner.
Youth Music Network Posts
