COVID-19 Update from Explore Georgia

Thank you to everyone who responded to the first wave of our Partner Readiness Survey. The responses you submitted are already proving to be a valuable resource as we talk about tourism with media and consumers, and continue to build out our recovery plan. A summary of responses from the first wave of the survey, aggregated by tourism region, can be found here.

We are now deploying wave II of the survey to continue to understand the state of tourism throughout Georgia. If you responded to wave I of the survey, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to participate in wave II. If you didn’t respond to wave I, you are encouraged to participate now.

Please note, this survey is intended and designed specifically for the primary destination promoter in your community. These include CVBs, DMOs, chambers of commerce, tourism offices, and other government entities and nonprofit groups.

If this is you, please take a few minutes to complete this survey by Monday, June 15. Please limit responses to one response per organization/destination. All responses will be kept confidential.

We plan to repeat this survey every two weeks, for the foreseeable future, and will continue to share the results of each survey, aggregated by tourism region, when the next wave of the survey is distributed. For more information, please contact Dr. Ashley Barfield, director of tourism research, at abarfield@georgia.org or 404-962-4087.

Georgia Tourism Summit and Webinar Series

The Georgia Tourism Summit will be held on September 2, 2020, at Lanier Islands. This Summit will be a one-day version of the annual Georgia Tourism Conference (rescheduled for 2021), including a stellar lineup, affordable registration, national updates and insights, research, and details of the Explore Georgia FY21 plan. Attendance is limited to 200 partners, and the event will adhere to the health and safety guidelines outlined by the CDC.

Explore Georgia is also offering a new monthly webinar series, which will bring the conference’s breakout sessions directly to you, free of charge. These one-hour sessions will focus on topics ranging from product development to various aspects of marketing, visitor services, and sales. A full calendar of webinars (through June 2021) is available on the Explore Georgia Tourism Industry Portal.

2021 Travel Guide Update

The Explore Georgia team, in partnership with Atlanta Magazine Custom Media, has decided to delay the release of the 2021 Official State Travel Guide from January 2021 to April 2021. This is intended to be a one-time-only change.

Because our state Visitor Information Centers - the primary channel for guide distribution - have been closed during a significant travel season, we want to ensure that our advertising partners receive the full benefit from the 2020 guide. We also understand that your budgets have been significantly impacted by the pandemic, and we respect your need for additional time to finalize and prioritize your plans.

The Explore Georgia team will be reaching out to schedule discussions with the regional tourism organizations to further understand regional insights, product, and opportunities for next year’s guide. These conversations will help us build a stronger, smarter travel guide for 2021 that not only reflects the new normal for our state, but shines a light on the best experiences we all have to offer. We will continue to share details about the guide here in PeachByte and through our partners at Atlanta Magazine Custom Media.
