A Letter from the Dean

Like many of our students, faculty and staff members, I am deeply upset at the systemic racism that continues to hold a grip on this nation, our nation.  We condemn racism in the strongest possible terms and believe in and support social justice.

Diversity and inclusivity are the hallmarks of who we are and what we do in the College of Engineering. We embrace our differences and work together to discover and learn from one another. A multitude of different individuals, race, color, and creed, coming together to find solutions to many of the world’s most vexing problems.

As a community, we need to also turn our attention to finding ways that together we can fight racism and work to make this country a model of diversity, equity and inclusion. Higher education is about matters of the mind, but it’s also, or should be, about matters of the heart and the soul. From both a personal (https://bit.ly/2Xo0BQW) and professional standpoint, I am looking to find my own voice just as many of you are. To see a path forward it is important to listen, speak out, and act. Every voice matters. Together we should all do something to right the wrongs we see; we owe that to our country, and our country will suffer if we don’t find a way.

I know that many of you, our faculty and staff, will assist us in making the College a welcoming community for everyone. Let us not let this opportunity pass without meaningful engagement. Reach out, connect, and open up, what may be an uncomfortable but necessary, dialogue. As leaders in your schools, you have a unique chance to establish conversational pathways which can lead to real and lasting changes. By communicating and understanding emotions, intentions, and reasons, together we can be a part of reshaping the dialogue and actions of the College.

All the best,
Steve

Be sure to take the time to review additional resources and be an ally in the fight against racial injustice.

Buzzin' Back to School is underway!

Once again Human Resources is hosting Buzzin' Back to School — a school supply drive by Georgia Tech families, for Georgia Tech families. Request a backpack by June 19, or donate supplies by June 26.
  1. Please use the Sign-Up Genius link to indicate which and how many supplies you will donate. This will help us better track what is needed as we get closer to the deadline.
  2. Due to Covid-19, we highly encourage employees to order supplies online. We've set up an Amazon Wish List that can be used for your convenience. If you choose to drop off supplies, please keep in mind GTHR's modified office hours.
If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Candice Bovian at candice.bovian@ohr.gatech.edu
