At Wishbone, our team is constantly looking forward with new designs, innovative materials and creative ways to make your community spaces special yet functional. We also seek to create a legacy with our designs. This comes through naming, adding branding options and designing spaces for plaques to be integrated. This month is all about new product innovations. We have been hard at work with our sister company Wellington Foundry and our team here at Wishbone.

Introducing: The Vincent Backless Bench

We collaborated with landscape architect (Dylan Chernoff @ DKL Durante Kreuk), on this new design. He liked the angles of our Rutherford picnic table and the finished clean look of the ends our Bayside Park Bench yet felt that neither design would be strong enough for the high use and high impact application it was intended for. We considered various options.

In areas where the products were going to be installed, there was high likelihood that they would be “grinded” by the local skateboard community. It is for this reason the built-in skate blocks play a large part in this design. They help to protect the product while not compromising comfort.

Product branding was also important. A metal transition piece was attached between the leg supports that could be labelled or routered for this purpose. In our landscape architect’s case, it was the name and logo of the university which added the perfect finishing touch.

The “Vincent” Backless Bench design exemplifies our ability to partner with our clients, and that by joining forces as a team, accomplish more than on our own.

Every once and a while I get questioned as to how did I come up with the name of the product. In this particular case it’s the middle name of one of our valued team members at Wellington Foundry.

Brad has been at Wellington for 5.5 years and has been a vital part of the design team working hand in hand with Wishbone in creating many of the products we sell today. We were trying to come up with a name and it just felt right, and long overdue, to honour his commitment to our companies in this way.

Introducing: The Vincent Picnic Table

Working together with a landscape architect, we intentionally created this industrial-style picnic table so it could stand up to the wear and tear of high impact locations; in this particular case it was in a university setting. Careful attention was given to the structural integrity of the frame while trying to not compromise its aesthetic appeal in this environment. The Vincent Picnic Table creatively uses capped ends and skate blocks in its design for a stylishly rugged look and coordinates well with the companion Vincent Bench. Separated bench seats are worth noting; for comfort purposes they are 33% wider than our traditional bench seats. The seat mounting distance from the table is flexible for accessibility based on the user group. With no cross bar attaching them to the table this design provides greater ease for people getting in and out. Finally, for maintenance purposes, this design is easier to clean in and around as there is access from all sides. We merge style with function and fused together, they create dynamic design.

Introducing: Bayview Rectangular Coffee Table

It is “hip to be square”, but also hip to be rectangle and the Bayview Coffee Table has just the right mix of sleek and modern angles to bring style to an outdoor space. When a customer liked the idea of a rectangular version of the table and asked if that could be built, we said, “That’s a brilliant idea! Why not?”. This version, when paired with a larger bench, brings with it a full-bodied look that is easy to maintain in a high-use environment. The reverse angle legs are stylish and are a nice compliment to the Bayview Series. Perfect for games or a meeting place for coffee, there is plenty of space around the table for conversation. Bringing the indoors out has never looked better.

A Sneak Peek at our Premium Decking @ The Verve Kelowma

We are so very pleased to present our newest premium decking project at The Verve in Kelowna. The Verve is one of the most highly sought-after condo developments in Kelowna, and we are proud to be a contributor to this beautiful community. After nearly a year of consultation and collaboration, the project is finally complete.

Nestled amongst the homes are four, six hundred square foot, shared common spaces. These were designed with utility, functionality and fun in mind and besides the landscaping, Wishbone provided the critical elements that have come together to create these community spaces. Wishbone is proud to supply the Perma-Deck Innovation premium decking, in Havana Brown, a low maintenance, high performance, recycled plastic decking that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. We also built the coffee tables, games tables and custom benches and wall bench seating from aluminum and recycled plastic lumber, along with supplying the recycled plastic Adirondack chairs to complete the scene.

Shared spaces like these are not just meant to be seen; they are designed for living. With our ultra-durable materials and products, The Verve shared common spaces will be there for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

Solutions for the Future from Pieces of the Past

May 2020 was our biggest recycling month EVER! It was a busy month turning recycled materials into sustainable site furnishings. In May 2020 alone we recycled 88,857 lbs of materials that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. Every month we track how much plastics and metal we are reusing. This has been at the forefront of our business mission and we are so excited to share the results with you. We should hit 4 million lbs in the near future!

Many of our products are sold through contractors and we never know where they have been installed with-out follow-up with the contractor. Sometimes we just happen across a location and this installation at Panarama Ridge in Surrey is just one of these. Here our Beselt All Aluminum Benches were featured
