It's almost summer!
We went from snow in May to 90 degrees in May and again in June...and it's not even summer! But this is probably a good time to review the dangers of training in heat.
Some symptoms of heat exhaustion include:
- fatigue
- dizziness
- nausea
- confusion
- headache
If you experience any of these in the heat, rest in the shade and drink fluids (without alcohol or caffeine). Cool compresses, fans, or other means of cooling off can also help. If symptoms don't lessen within 15 minutes, seek emergency medical help to avoid heat stroke which can be really bad.
Some Captain Obvious tips to prevent heat exhaustion:
- Drink lots of water!
- Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
- Stay out of the sun
- Have good ventilation
- Take frequent breaks
- Drink lots of water! (Yes, again.)
Also, see the "Make It Easier" post above. That can also apply to hot days.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay strong. Literally.
Be seeing you.
