Following the success of our 1st webinar in the ILSI COVID-19 Educational Webinar series held on May 26,2020, we are pleased to present the 2nd webinar which will be held on June 16, 2020. Organized by ILSI and its Asia entities, this 2nd Webinar will share important insights into the technological frontiers of biomedical science and nutrition research, including the use of artificial intelligence. Leading experts will share their views on how these critical developments, as well as global collaboration among scientists, researchers and health authorities, can be harnessed to address COVID-19.

On May 26, 2020, ILSI and its Asia entities successfully organized the first webinar on COVID-19, titled "Food System Resilience - Global and Asian Perspectives", with over 600 attendees from different parts of the world.
Three eminent speakers with global experience discussed the impact of COVID-19 on the food supply chain, and longer-term consequences on the fundamentals of our food systems. They identified the strengths and weaknesses in our food security preparedness, shared their medium and long-term perspectives, as well as future investments needed to enhance food and nutrition security.

We are delighted to announce that the Review of Nutrition Labeling, Nutrition & Health Claims Regulations in Asia has been published is now available for purchase on the ILSI website!
This publication is jointly authored and published by ILSI’s Asia entities, and covers the status of nutrition labeling, nutrition and health claims regulations in 10 countries and regions in Asia. It also includes international guidelines on nutrition labeling and claims developed by Codex Alimentarius Commission, as well as comparisons of similarities and differences between international regulations and those of Asian countries and regions.

The 2020 Global Nutrition Report in the Context of COVID-19
Good nutrition is vital to an individual's defence against COVID-19. The 2020 Global Nutrition Report’s emphasis on nutritional well-being for all, particularly the most vulnerable, has a heightened significance in the face of this new global threat. This report examined the critical role of addressing inequity to end malnutrition in all its forms, and identified priority actions to amplify efforts and propel progress towards ending malnutrition. Putative Contributions of Circadian Clock and Sleep in the Context of SARS-CoV-2 Infection
This paper reviewed the unique potential links between SARS-CoV-2 and circadian rhythms and sleep, and suggested the possibility that both of these homeostatic processes may significantly modify the susceptibility to infection and overall clinical manifestation of the disease. It also highlighted the implementation of healthy sleep measures as a protective strategy against infection and early detection of patients at risk for more severe disease. COVID-19: The Inflammation Link and the Role of Nutrition in Potential Mitigation
Published in Nutrients, this review provides an overview of the anti-inflammatory therapies that are under investigation and outline dietary and lifestyle considerations implicated in immune function and respiratory illness outcomes, and the importance of nutrition as a mitigation strategy to support immune function amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Zinc and Respiratory Tract Infections: Perspectives for COVID-19
Zinc is known to modulate antiviral and antibacterial immunity and regulate inflammatory response. In view of a lack of clinical data on preventive and therapeutic efficiency of zinc in COVID-19 and its involvement of the respiratory system, this article discussed the recent clinical data on the role of zinc protection against bronchopulmonary infections, and the existing indications of the impact of zinc on nCoV-2019. A Review of Neurological Complications of COVID-19
Despite the widespread morbidity and mortality resulting from COVID-19, the paucity of studies examining neurological effects of the infection caused by SAR-CoV-2 remains. This paper described the neurological complications including central nervous system (CNS) effects, peripheral nervous system (PNS) effects, and skeletal muscular injury due to SARS-CoV-2. Interim Issues Paper on the Impact of COVID-19 on Food Security and Nutrition
Given the rapid widespread of COVID-19 which has reached to an unprecedented level in its scale, this preliminary discussion paper aimed to help inform the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) about the impact of COVID-19 on food security and nutrition (FSN) as currently perceived by the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE). The paper laid out the direct and indirect impacts of COVID-19 on FNS, as well as both supply and demand considerations. Helpful key messages and recommendations were also presented in the paper. The COVID-19 Nutrition Crisis: What to Expect and How to Protect
Nutrition has been a development priority and many countries have strengthened their nutrition policies and programs with measurable success. With the occurrence of the COVID-19 crisis, this may likely exacerbate the already considerable burden of malnutrition and threaten nutrition progress. To mitigate adverse nutrition impacts, this article outlined multi-sectoral nutrition actions that can protect the most vulnerable, including mothers and children.
