Hello,

I’m mostly pleased (and a little disappointed) to say that my diary and to-do list now seems to be back to pre-lockdown level! However, I’m enjoying writing the introductions to these newsletters, so here’s a little round up of what’s been going on from intoBodmin interim HQ (my kitchen table):

First off, I’m really chuffed with the two songs that the Kernow Bedroom Choir have produced. Please have a look at them, they’re really wonderful. I’m pleased to say I managed to squeeze in some practice and submitted recordings myself. There are two more songs to go and you’ll find information about the whole project HERE. If you’re keen to participate but don’t have the means or confidence to record yourself, then get in touch. If you’re keen to participate but don’t want to submit a recording, then that’s ok too - hopefully, when we’re allowed to get together for a sing-song, we’ll be putting on a live Kernow Bedroom Choir event, which won’t be exclusively for those who were part of the videos.

Ha-Hum-Ah Theatre realease the final episode of It's Grimm today. So if you've been waiting to download all the episodes and to listen to the wonderful story in one go, then now's the time! It's been an amazing feat to record such excellent work during lockdown. Please have a listen.

We’ve also been busy outside of our homes. I’ve been at the Old Library working with Tash, one of our Directors and some volunteers, on developing the Old Library Garden. In the small area at the rear of the building there are now five raised beds with kale, lettuce, tomatoes, squash, sweetcorn, leeks, carrots, courgette and herbs growing. We’re also laying wood chip for an outdoor seating area. We’re doing this for many reasons, but the two main ones are to create a space for growing for self sufficiency, education and wellbeing and because we have been working on a plan for reopening the cafe. Staffed by volunteers, we’ll be serving drinks, cakes and soup on a pay-what-you-can-afford basis. This crisis has and will continue to have a profound impact on so many people, in many different ways. We feel passionately that people need social interaction in a safe and responsible environment, whilst enjoying a nice coffee and piece of cake that they can afford (or have for free). We will only have outdoor seating in the first instance and will be open for limited times each day. Hopefully in the next newsletter, I’ll have more details. In the meantime, we will be looking for cafe volunteers. In particular, we will be looking for people with hospitality or catering experience and qualifications, so please do get in touch if you think you could help.

Finally, I want to pay tribute to all those people worldwide who have taken part in the recent demonstrations for equality and tolerance both as part of the Black Lives Matter movement and in support of the LGBTQ community as part of Pride month. Without passionate individuals calling out racism, sexism and homophobia, and responsible organisations taking action against discriminatory practice, then Bodmin, Cornwall, the world will never be equal. Bodmin is not a very ethnically diverse town and whilst at intoBodmin we try hard in recruitment, programming events and planning projects, to find people and projects that demonstrate diversity and promote equality, we have a long way to go. This must and will play a vital role in how intoBodmin grows, and in constantly striving for excellence through equality, we will be stronger and better equipped to engage and represent the wider community. I want my children to grow up in a town that is inclusive, compassionate and well informed. I hope together we can continue to contribute to building this in Bodmin.

Very best

Fin
