The Town of Canmore

To be safe and inviting for Canmore residents, employees, store owners, and visitors while allowing businesses to recover successfully; a pedestrian and cycling-only Main Street (between 6 Ave - 8 Ave) has been implemented as of  Friday June 12. 

-Main Street will be a shared pedestrian and cyclist zone. Cyclists are allowed to ride on the street and should walk their bikes on the sidewalk.

-A 4-way stop will be installed at 8 Avenue and 10 Street to better accommodate the flow of traffic at that intersection

-patio permit fees for the 2020 season have been waived

Canada Day looks a little different this year, but we still have lots to celebrate!  Participate in theLEGO float challenge and house decorating contest to recreate the parade and jubilant atmosphere of July 1st from your house.  Are you missing the pancake breakfast? Public health guidelines and physical distancing measures remain in place. As of today, the following can now re-open in Alberta:
  • K-12 schools, for requested diploma exams and summer school, following guidance
  • Libraries
  • Additional surgeries, and wellness services such as massage, acupuncture and reflexology
  • Personal services (esthetics, cosmetics skin and body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing, facial treatments, artificial tanning)
  • Movie theatres and theatres
  • Community halls
  • Team sports
  • Indoor recreation, fitness and sports, including gyms and arenas
  • Pools for leisure swimming
  • VLTs in restaurants and bars
  • Bingo halls and casinos (excluding table games)
  • Instrumental concerts
  • Provincial campgrounds can now operate at full capacity
In addition, with public health measures in place, capacity restrictions have been lifted for restaurants, cafes, lounges and bars. 

Maximum 50 people:  
  • Indoor social gatherings – including wedding and funeral receptions, and birthday parties
Maximum 100 people:
  • Outdoor events and indoor seated/audience events – including wedding and funeral ceremonies
No cap (with public health measures and physical distancing in place):
  • Worship gatherings
  • Restaurants, cafés, lounges, and bars
  • Casinos
  • Bingo halls

June 15
The Government of Alberta is launching public consultations starting June 15, 2020 to gather feedback on the quality and accessibility of childcare in Alberta. Childcare operators and industry associations will participate in virtual table talk sessions. An online survey will also be available to parents, early childhood educators, and operators and will be sent to parents through their childcare centre. Read More HERE.
Commercial Tenancy Support Feedback
The Government of Alberta continues to solicit feedback from tenants and commercial landlords on their thoughts on commercial rent support during COVID-19. You can participate by phone, email, or by taking an online survey. Read More HERE
Bill  22
Bill 22, the Red Tape Reduction Implementation Act, 2020, clears the way for businesses to operate more efficiently and freely as we prepare for the reopening of the economy. The bill proposes 14 legislative changes across six different ministries. 
 
If Bill 22 is passed, most remaining programs and services that have been led by Energy Efficiency Alberta (EEA) will transition to
 Emissions Reduction Alberta - an organization that has been helping industries and businesses save money and reduce emissions for more than 10 years. Read More HERE.

 June 10
A new bill was tabled in the House of Commons that will allow the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry to issue orders to extend various deadlines for federal businesses, not-for-profits, cooperatives, and boards of trade. 

Bill C-17 affects the following acts administered by Corporations Canada: 
  • Canada Business Corporations Act 
  • Canada Not‑for‑profit Corporations Act 
  • Canada Cooperatives Act 
  • Boards of Trade Act
The bill grants authority to extend the period for holding annual meetings and, for boards of trade, the deadline for filing annual summaries.More information to come. 
June 11
The Federal Government announced new funding totaling $133 million to support Indigenous business through the pandemic and into recovery. Of these additional funds, $117 million will reach more community-owned First Nation, Inuit and Métis businesses, including microbusinesses, that are not eligible for existing business support measures.  Read More HERE

The 8-month business training program includes training and mentorship with local entrepreneurs. Apply before July 19!  Next virtual information session is June 16 from 7 - 8 p.m.
