Pride is usually a joyful season—a celebration of the LGBTQ community as we are. It doesn’t come without acknowledgment of the suffering that has and still is felt by people near and far because of who they are and who they love, but in recent years, Pride month has felt largely celebratory, and characterized by inclusion, acceptance, love, and parades brought to you by whichever big bank felt like they should contribute something positive to society for once.
We’d be remiss not to acknowledge that the times we’re in right now are different for so many reasons. We’re battling racism, we’re battling a pandemic, we’re battling injustice at every level and in every way, and how we experience those battles—none of which are entirely new or fully separate—intersects with our own identities.
Now feels like a good time to say that this isn’t what I was told to write for the “merch email”— tbh this whole thing might get scrapped for a line and a half about how we have new merch. I was supposed to let you know that we created new merch for Pride—the first time we’ve done that at Crooked!—and that we’re excited to share it with you. But we mocked up these designs in what all of us affectionately now refer to as the “before times,” and to present it to you the same way we would’ve then… maybe some merch email lists you’re on would be cool with that, but we aren’t.
These designs celebrate who we are, and what we stand for. Whether you’re just browsing, or here to pick them up for yourself, we hope they can assist you in doing the same, or at least make you smile.
