Letter to the Congregation

Kevin Coffee-Congregational President

June 11, 2020
Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Paul’s First Lutheran, June is a busy time at St. Paul’s! The school year has ended and big changes loom in front of us.

  • We will be having our first Pastor Call Meeting immediately after church on Sunday, June 14. Pastor Jon Buchholz, our California/Arizona District President, will be in attendance to help guide us through our list of pastoral candidates. The meeting will take place in the church under social distancing guidelines. Santi Botero will make a Zoom link available for those who want to attend remotely.

  • The Memorial Service for Eva Weindorf will be at the church on Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. If you want to attend, go to SignUpGenius and search for the service using pastor Meitner's email (psmeitner@gmail.com). You can also call the church office to have your name put on the list. Attendance will be limited to 100 people.

  • June 21st is the last Sunday that Pastor Meitner will preach. After church that day there will be a farewell lunch in the schoolyard for Pastor and for Mr. Koeppel. They will both be off on their new adventures after the 21st. Come and say thank you and good-bye!

  • Pastor Charles Found begins his second tenure as Vacancy Pastor on Sunday, June 28. Pastor Found helped us out in the early 2000s when St. Paul’s was without a pastor for more than a year! Come and welcome Pastor Found back to St. Paul’s!

  • Starting June 28 the evening service will no longer be held for the duration of the pastor vacancy. Instead, we will have two Sunday morning services, one at the regular 9 a.m. time and a second starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be no scheduled bible study classes during the summer months. Coffee Hour will be in the schoolyard after the end of the first service.

  • The Council has extended a call to Santiago Botero to serve as Interim Principal of the school for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. We’ve also extended a call to our Staff Minister Karl Bauer to be the Interim Vice-Principal. Both gentlemen will need our full support as they take on these important tasks.

  • As we come out of the Covid-19 restrictions, please don’t forget to send in your offerings if you are unable to make it to our services. You can use the GivePlus mobile app, the Online Giving link on our website, or you can mail your offering to the church office.

  • We have lots of upkeep and repair opportunities in front of us during the summer months. Keep your eyes open for another letter outlining our giving and volunteer opportunities as we spruce up our school, our vacant parsonage and teacherage, our gym, and our church.

Thank you, everyone. God’s blessings to you and yours as we move into the coming summer months!

Your servant in Christ Jesus,

Kevin Coffee
Congregational President, St. Paul's First Lutheran
