UMA WEEKLY UPDATE
June 11, 2020

Dear UMA Families,

We began the school year having reached our goal of re-opening UMA at a new downtown site. By the end of the year, we were working through a worldwide pandemic and the reckoning of our own societal shortcomings. Amy and I would like to thank you for the partnership between the school and your family as we reflect on this school year. The feedback, communication, and input we received have been appreciated. One of the things that makes UMA special is the opportunity to speak more intimately with families when it comes to issues of a child’s education.

UMA will examine and incorporate data and comments collected from surveys regarding distance learning as planning for next year moves into high gear. The school will consider what went well and what can be improved. More information about the start of the 2020 school year will be communicated later this summer.

On a personal note, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your child(ren) over these past two years. I will be leaving UMA at the end of this month and will have many positive memories of the students here; I have enjoyed seeing their growth. I wish you and your family well.

Sincerely,

Arslan Aziz

End of Year Book & Computer Return
UMA will be open through Thursday, June 17 from 9 am - 3 pm each day for the drop-off of language arts books, textbooks, laptops and wi-fi hotspots. Pull up next to our building on Wabasha Avenue for easy access to the open courtyard gate.  Contact UMA if you are not able to return school items during this time period.
UMA Spring Gala
To our many families and community supporters, the Gala Committee on behalf of Upper Mississippi Academy says thank you!  Thank you for your generous support, be it financial or in spirit of our recent Spring Gala ~ Connections Count.  Together we raised $14,997 toward our goal of $18,000.  These monies will help equip Upper Mississippi Academy with newer and upgraded technology that students will use when in school or during distance learning.  Students, their families, and the community will also be welcomed into our space with a green wall that you have made possible.

Your support is crucial and strengthens our ability to ensure ALL our students have the necessary resources so they can become the leaders, thinkers, partners, and doers so desperately needed in our world today.  Connections Count, our theme for this year’s Gala, couldn’t be more timely as we educate students in what it means to help heal, engage, and work toward solutions.

With deep gratitude ~ The Gala Committee
