I am thrilled to announce we are reopening on Monday, June 15th!  Our hours will be Monday through Friday 1pm - 6pm, and to start we will only be admitting 25 people at a time. Social distancing is required, so please stay 6 feet away from staff and other patrons. Wearing masks is strongly encouraged.

We will have a staff person stationed in the lobby. When you come in, stop at the table in the lobby and one of our friendly staff will hand you one of our bright pink laminated capacity cards (sanitized between uses), which are numbered 1 - 25. When you leave, return the card to the staff person. They will sanitize the card and then hand it to the next person waiting. We don't expect long lines, but if you do arrive and need to wait for a card, please remember to maintain 6 feet of distance while waiting. Once we see how things go with 25 people at a time, we will look at increasing our capacity if we can safely do so.

Additionally, our current method of appointment-based hold pickups is ending. Starting Monday, just come to the lobby of the library during our open hours to pick up your holds. We'll check your holds out to you there. If you'd like to browse the collection inside before or after checking out your holds, you will need to request a capacity card.

Meeting rooms are still unavailable, and computer use is still by appointment only. Computer appointments are limited to 50 minutes with no extensions. If you'd like to schedule a time to use a computer, call us at 541-469-7738 between 1-6pm on any weekday.

And one final note. Please understand that choosing to visit a public building during this time comes with a certain amount of assumed risk. We are not able to keep every item or every surfaced sanitized throughout the day. We will only be cleaning and sanitizing the restrooms once per day. We will try our best to keep high-touch surfaces sanitized, and to sanitize anything that we check out to you or hand you. But because no system is perfect, we strongly recommend that you wear masks, wash your hands frequently, only touch items/surfaces that you need to touch, and refrain from touching your face.

Please do not come to the library if you are ill. Before going into any public place, the CDC recommends that you ask yourself the following questions:

  1. In the last 14 days have you come into close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who has received a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis?
  2. Do you have a cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing?
  3. Do you have at least two of these symptoms: Fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, please do not come to the library. If staff notice you coughing or appearing to be ill, we may provide you a mask or, in extreme circumstances, ask you to leave until you are feeling better.

I hope everyone is staying healthy and happy! I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Sincerely,

Julie Retherford
Library Director

Please note that the library will continue to remain closed, and events and meeting room reservations are still cancelled.

Returning Materials

The book drop will be open starting at 9am Monday, May 4th. All materials must be returned through the outdoor bookdrop or return slot inside the library. Library employees will not accept your returns directly.

All returned materials will be held in quarantine for at least 72 hours before being checked in. If you check your account online and see that items are still checked out to you, please wait 5 business days before calling to check to make sure we received them. We will check them in, and any late fines that have accrued will be forgiven.

Placing Holds

You may place holds by going online to www.coastlinelibrarynetwork.org. On the right, type your barcode and pin. If you do not know your pin, try the last 6 digits of your library barcode. If that doesn't work, call us at 541-469-7738 and we will reset your pin for you.  Once you are logged in, search for the item you want and click "place hold" next to it. On the next screen, click "Confirm Hold."

You may also place items on hold by calling the library at (541) 469-7738 or stopping by Monday through Friday 1pm - 6pm. We will have limited staff available to answer your calls, so prefer that you use our online system to place holds if you are able. But we are happy to help you by phone if you prefer. If you reach our voicemail, leave a message and we will return your call as soon as we can.

All libraries in the Coastline Consortium are now sending materials for holds.

Picking Up Holds

We are no longer doing curbside delivery or appointment based hold pickups. When your holds arrive, you will receive notifications in the usual way (an email or phone call, depending on what you have indicated you prefer). Come to the lobby of the library Monday through Friday 1-6pm to pick up your holds. Do not return materials to staff. If you have materials to return, you must put them in the book return.

Computer Appointments

Computers may be used by appointment only. Computer stations will be sanitized between appointments.

  • Appointments are available Monday through Friday 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm.
  • Each appointment is for 50 minutes (ex: 1 - 1:50pm) and extensions are not allowed
  • You may only have one appointment per day. Depending on popularity, you may be limited to one appointment per week.
  • Appointments must be made at least one business day in advance
  • When you arrive for your appointment, go to the table in the lobby and request a capacity card. When you leave, return the card to that staff person.
  • You may print up to 25 pages for free. After that, printing is 10 cents per page
  • Extended in-person tech help from staff is not available at this time
  • The gaming computers in the children's area are not available.

Q & A

Are you sanitizing materials?

  • All returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours or sanitized before being checked in or checked out.

I'm trying to stay home as much as possible. Do you have eBooks?

  • Yes! You can use your library card to access ebooks, audiobooks, and more. Our two apps for eBooks and Audiobooks are Libby and Hoopla. Download them from your app store and create accounts using your library card. If you need help, give us a call at 541-469-7738. We also have other online resources like Mango Languages and ChiltonLibrary Auto Repair Database. You can see all of our online resources here

I don't have a library card. How can I get one now without coming in?

  • We would be happy to sign you up for a library card over the phone. Give us a call at 541-469-7738 and we'll get the information we need from you, and tell you all about the benefits a library card provides.
Why aren't meeting rooms open yet?
  • Reopening meeting rooms requires quite a bit of staff time, and will require more sanitization work throughout the day. Additional, our large meeting room is being used for storage at the moment. We will reopen meeting rooms as soon as we feel we can safely do so.

Are the copy machine and scanner available?

  • Yes. Black & White copies are 10 cents per page, and Color copies are 25 cents per page. Scanning is free, but we recommend you bring a USB drive if you have one. Since the library is closed, no other access to the copy machine or scanner is available.

Are you accepting book donations?

  • No, we are not accepting donations at this time.

Is the Friends of the Library book sale still happening?

  • The Friends of the Library book sale that typically happens during the Azalea Festival weekend has been cancelled.

What are your plans for the Summer Reading Program?

  • We will be having VIRTUAL Summer Reading Programs for all ages during the month of July. More info will be emailed soon.

Can I send a fax?

  • No, we are not currently sending faxes. You may have a fax sent at several area businesses such as Pacific Rim Copy Center or Village Express Mail Center.

When do you expect to reopen to full capacity/regular hours?

  • At this time, we don't know. We are watching the governor's recommendations and our community closely. As soon as we know when more hours or services will be added, we will spread the word.

I have late fines on my account. Can they be forgiven?

  • Yes! If they are not automatically forgiven, you can email us at contact@chetcolibrary.org or call us at 541-469-7738 and we will remove them.

I owe for lost items on my account. How do I pay for them?

  • You may come in during open hours to pay, or call us at 541-469-7738 Monday - Friday 1-6pm and we will take credit/debit card payments over the phone. An email receipt can be sent to you upon request.
