Cannabis trends

The Ontario Cannabis Store has published a visually snazzy report on its first full fiscal year of operation.

It’s filled with detailed data on sales figures by category and brand, pricing information and consumer trends.

The report is a treasure trove of data on cannabis stats and habits in Canada’s most populous province.

“The goal for OCS is to create a digital feedback loop, a data connection between consumers’ purchase decisions and Canada’s Licensed Producers, authorized retail stores and the public,” says Cal Bricker, President & CEO of the OCS, in the report.

“This data will inform investments, create opportunities and foster innovation.”

Over the fiscal year, Ontario sold 35.1 million grams of cannabis for $385.1 million in sales.

We’ve collected some of the graphic highlights for you.

Chowie Wowie Milk Chocolate

By Curtis Woodcock

As a cannabis connoisseur, my tolerance has become decently high (no pun intended). However, these still pack a strong enough punch to be felt.

Given its low dose of THC, and my experience with grey market edibles, I expected to feel nothing. This was not the case, but I did need to eat both halves to get the effects I was looking for. This does not reflect the product itself – only my tolerance to THC.

Overall, there is a good chocolate taste, but it does resemble any other cheaper tasting milk chocolate out there. The flavour is not otherworldly amazing, but not a disappointing product. The plus side to the low dose and having two (5mg each) is that people new to edibles can try them safely, responsibly, and without anxiety. Overall, it gets my approval!

THC: 10mg, 2 doses (5mg each)

Effect: Mild to moderate

Shark Shock by Redecan

More and more people are talking about Redecan – and the growing recognition is deserved.

I picked this high CBD strain up at Green Gaia in Summerland a while back. Recently managing pain, I found myself in a spot where I needed some CBD for relief.

Enter Shark Shock at about 3% THC and 8.25% CBD. The 1:3 ratio is nice, and always seems to find my sweet spot. It’s gentle on the mind and relaxed in the body. It really helps take the edge off of pain.

The bud itself is dense and sticky, with stringy orange pistils. This is a pairing of White Widow and Skunk No. 1. It has a spicy aroma, with a bit of a sour apple taste.

Redecan is proving to be a dependable and diverse value brand. I’ve vaped for a while off and on with a 510-thread Redecan Zkittles cart and have found its distinct pine-sol taste to be strangely endearing and effective. Their Reign Drops are potent at 30 mg THC per ml. And affordable too.

The brand is becoming a go-to for cannabis enthusiasts looking for a consistent product at an affordable price.

Shower Thoughts

In a span of a few years our parents go from telling us "sex is bad" to "I want grandkids."

Worms in apples has been less of a problem than what we expected as kids.

In movies, there are two kinds of vents. Human sized vents and vents that are big enough only for the smallest, least experienced member of the group.
