FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Library Building Reopens
with Computer & Browsing Services
(TOPEKA) The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library (TSCPL) building will reopen on Monday, June 15 with limited services and temporary hours. This marks the beginning of Phase three of seven, which will provide access to services and collections that are most in demand. The library is in compliance with the Shawnee County Health Department’s Ad Astra COVID-19 health guidelines to help maintain the health and safety of customers and employees. Visitors to the library will be expected to maintain social distance and wear a mask while at the library. If they do not have a mask, one will be provided. A maximum of 225 customers will be allowed in the library at a time.

The library’s temporary hours are Monday-Saturday, 9am – 6pm and Noon – 6pm on Sunday to allow for extra cleaning of the library building. Customers will be able to use 100 desktop computers and in-house Wi-Fi for 1.5 hours a day, ask library staff to browse for books, movies and music for in-person checkouts, and order take-out meals from the Millennium Café, 10am – 2 pm. Customers will sign-up for computer use at the Customer Service desk and will be escorted to their assigned computer. Wi-Fi customers will also check in at the Customer Service desk and will be escorted to designated Wi-Fi areas. When their time is complete, customers will exit the library.

Browsing Just for You is an updated service designed to get customers what they want, even though the book, music and movie shelves are not open for browsing at this time. This personal service is available online and in-person at the library with a librarian finding the items you want. If customers use the online questionnaire ahead of their visit, the librarian will select items and notify them when the items are ready for pick up at our new Curbside Pickup service.

Another popular check out is the Grab-N-Go book bundles for all ages. Grab-N-Go bundles are perfect when customers want something to read right now. We’ve put together book bundles based on age ranges and genres. Customers can park in the Curbside Pickup reserved area, call the number on the sign and ask for a book bundle of whatever they have in mind. They could ask for mysteries, picture books, middle-grade fantasy, science fiction, history or almost anything and we’ll bring out a bundle of books.

Bookmobiles are back in service with a limited schedule, and will deliver customer holds and provide Grab-N-Go book bundles. The mobile Wi-Fi will also be available. To see the schedule, go to https://tscpl.org/bookmobile.

To keep up to date on the library this summer, check the website page What You Can Do Now  that details all that is open and available beginning next week. This menu will also be given to customers who visit the library. This webpage will be updated  regularly as we move through the TSCPL COVID-19 reopening plan.
