Statement of Purpose
Washington County Kids believes that although words have impact, actions bring transformation. We stand in solidarity with goals to challenge systemic racism and its impact on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Black lives matter! We firmly stand against racism in any form. Increasing access to out of school time programs (early childhood, after school, and summer) for all kids in the county can make a difference in addressing systemic racism. Due to longstanding racism in our nation, there is an opportunity gap in public schools. Increasing access to out of school time programming will help close that gap. Currently, not all kids in the county have access to these programs and lack of access disproportionately impacts children of color. Solving the problem of providing equal access to quality, affordable out of school time programs for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in Washington County has always been and always will be central to our mission. In addition, we stand for broad systemic changes that will help our families of color gain access to quality education, affordable housing, equal pay for equal work, and judicial and law enforcement reforms.
