Holy Communion with our Online Worship!

Preparation Suggestions Below

We will continue celebrating Holy Communion again this Sunday, June 14! Before our Online Worship begins, we suggest you set up a cup of wine or grape juice, and a small plate with a piece of bread or a cracker. You might also like to add a flower or a candle - or both! - to make it feel special.  You could lay down a nice napkin or place a covering over the cup and plate.

What is most important is that you are present for this holy sacrament, and the people of God are praying together.

Second Mile Giving:

“Second-mile giving” refers to an extra offering toward a special cause. Our second mile giving for June goes to California Lutheran University. Cal Lutheran is home to more than 3,078 undergraduate and 1,324 graduate students who come from more than 49 countries and represent a wide variety of faiths. Both in and out of the classroom, everyone at Cal Lutheran is committed to helping each student pursue their passions to discover their purpose, and follow that purpose to transform their community—and the world.

Offering can be given through Tithe.Ly or mailed to the Church Office at 504 Baker St.
*If donating to Second Mile Giving, please note "2nd Mile: Cal Lutheran" in your preferred offering method. Thanks!
NEW THIS WEEK

Elim Reopening Update - Possibly August

The Leadership Team has reviewed information regarding reopening from The CA Department of Public Health, Sonoma County and our Synod Office. It was agreed that Elim would take the recommendation from our Synod Office to wait until the end of July to consider reopening. The LT felt it would take about 2 months to implement the recommended protocols and training of staff and volunteers in any case. Another concern was how the current rules and procedures could diminish enjoyment of in person worship.

Guidance for Places of Worship protocols and limitations include; 25% capacity for seating, masks are required, singing is highly discouraged, hand sanitizer dispensers need to be installed, temperature screening required, a site specific plan needs to be written, staff and volunteers trained, and fellowship time is discouraged. LT is hopeful that by the end of July there will be fewer restrictions.

To get feedback from our membership in regards to reopening the church, a simple survey will be sent out in the next week or two.  When you receive the survey please reply in a timely manner.

If you have any questions, please contact Roger Davis.

Thank you!

To our Elim Family and Friends,
As you may already know, the R3 2020 New Orleans service trip has been cancelled due to the Covid situation. We really thought this year would be the 2019 Hurricane Barry redux trip, but it seems God has other plans for us! We want to take a moment and let you know how grateful we are for your continued and generous support over the years! The ongoing Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts through SBP and partner volunteers like us are helping to change the lives of so many. We couldn’t have done it without you! We are excited to see what new adventures in service our future will bring.
With thanks and appreciation,
The R3 Team, Rebuild Recover Restore

Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine

THIS Wednesday, June 17, Online Prayer Service

The 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly adopted a resolution designating June 17 as a commemoration of the martyrdom of the Emanuel 9—the nine people shot and killed on June 17, 2015, during a Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC. An online ELCA Prayer Service for the Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine, including Bishop Eaton and leaders from around the church, is being prepared for viewing beginning on June 17.

Our relationship to the shooter as well as two of the slain reminds us of both our complicity and our calling. Together we confess that we are in bondage to the sins of racism and white supremacy and, at the same time, we rejoice in the freedom that is ours in Christ Jesus who “has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us” (Ephesians 2:14).

Parking Lot Improvement Project Complete!

If you drive by the church, take a look at the wonderful improvement in our parking lot!  It has been double sealed and new stripes painted. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers that helped to make this happen! Steve Geney and Roger Davis collected bids, George Matt, Rich & Susan Rodkin, and Kevin & Rosemary Hart did the prep work of cleaning weeds from the perimeter and cracks, and George and Rich trimmed back all the vegetation to create the access that Stripe ’n’ Seal requested. Thank you!

“KindKnits” Needed More Than Ever

Looking to use your time spent sheltering in place for a good cause? The Elim KindKnits group is currently hard at work, knitting and crocheting beautiful scarves to give away as an outreach project again this fall. Want to join us? Just let Julie Prime or Athena Labberton know you’d like to participate. Scarves can be any color or pattern, so have fun being creative! If you’d like new patterns to inspire you, let us know that too. If you need yarn, check online—or with stores such as Michael's and JOANN's that offer online ordering with curbside pickup.

Mini Prayer Shawls Needed for Synod Assembly

The Sierra Pacific Synod is asking all knitters and crochet-ers to wash their hands, grab their needles and hooks, gather up their yarn, and create mini prayer shawls roughly 6” by 3”. We will need about 600 total for our Synod assembly!  As your fingers are at work, please pray for God’s blessings upon the recipient of your creation and that they receive the gift of spiritual discernment. These mini-shawls can dropped off at the Elim office in the brown box.  Thank you!
