REOPENING PREPARATION
This week, New York City open phase 1. Our stores remained closed. In the midst of this backdrop, the US reached 2 million cases of Covid-19 and states reopening are making headlines again:
Our recent talk with our staff aligned with our beliefs and reality, we cannot open this early as the virus still hovers, and sadly, about 1% of New Yorkers have been tested in the New York City area. So, we begin preparations by asking our staff to get tested and appeal to you to do the same.
We believe in prevention so we are cautious and encourage you to be vigilant. Our lives are precious, you don't get a second chance on this, so be careful with the one you have abd hold it dear.
Again, New York City requires masks to be worn and our business is in agreement with this policy. We will require and expect everyone who comes into our locations to WEAR A MASK. Life is vital and we value it even more.
BLACK LIVES MATTER.
We are a black business doing what we love in 3 locations. If you support and believe in black people and business, then, do what you can in a small way, in a super big way and as a business, and support us simply by buying online and with your friends we are dropshipping from our vendors.
BLACK BUSINESSES
Locally in Bed-Stuy, Harlem and Crown Heights, there are Black-owned businesses like us, please participate by going there to shop and eat at these businesses.
All of us have been closed during the pandemic, our existence, growth and recovery is key to neighborhoods, fulfilling the spirit of enterpreneurship and the narrative of the Civil rights of a better future. We need your help
BOYCOTT THE NFL
The uprisings and protests are things we deeply support as well as the boycott of the NFL. Colin Kaepernick kneeled peacefully protesting police brutality and his career was destroyed. This is institutional racism and like many of our customers, we stopped watching NFL games that day and ask you to support our boycott of this organization here: BOYCOTT THE NFL
Again, we will remain closed and will possibly reopen in stages, one location at a time, and later than most businesses in New York.
In this newsletter, we have 5 things to talk about (it's a repeat, intentional to focus on planning our reopening):
1. African Fashion Clothing
2. Father's Day Items
3. Art Available
4. Advertising with us
5. The Wellness Pivot
At Calabar Gallery, we have shown the work of DOBA AFOLABI, see here. Other works available for sale. Please contact us at info@calabargallery.com if you are interested in buying a piece.
4. ADVERTISE WITH US
This newsletter goes to 10,500 people and several people requested that we open it up to about 2 to 3 advertisers every week. If you are interested, please email at info@calabargallery.com.
5. THE WELLNESS PIVOT
Time during this pandemic was productive because of food choices: immune boosting, health focuses and returning to exercising. As a result, we joined the development of a new show:
The Wellness Pivot: Food, Health and Fitness Show explores mind, body, and spirit as a process of natural healthy living focused on food, exercise and health ways for a more holistic lifestyle.
