Word from the President
Dear Members,
There are only a few days left until the EPSC 2020 abstract submission deadline at 13:00 CEST on 24th June. We hope very much that you are planning to join us for our first virtual meeting and look forward to seeing your contributions! Please note that some bursaries will be available to support early career researchers and members of our community from under-represented states.
The format that we have developed for EPSC 2020 blends short, real-time sessions with offline, asynchronous content (pre-recorded video presentations, virtual posters, and discussion boards), ensuring ease of participation irrespective of time-zones. An online meeting has many advantages from an environmental perspective and will enable members of the planetary community around the world to join the meeting at a lower cost than normal. We hope that we will be able to incorporate some of these innovations into future physical meetings to provide ongoing options for virtual access.
In these difficult times, the Europlanet Society values more than ever the importance of EPSC as a forum to bring our community together. By sharing scientific results, discussing plans for the future and participating in networking events at EPSC 2020, we can work together to start to address the many challenges facing us in this rapidly changing world.

Meet the Europlanet Society's Executive Board
Dr. Leigh Fletcher
Dr. Leigh Fletcher is a Planetary Scientist at the University of Leicester, specialising in the exploration of our Solar System’s giant planets via robotic spacecraft missions and ground and space-based astronomical facilities. He works as part of the Cassini, Juno, and JUICE mission teams exploring Jupiter and Saturn, and is a passionate advocate for future exploration of the Ice Giants. Having worked on both sides of the Atlantic on mission advocacy, ground-based observing, and planetary missions, Leigh likes to aid the community in developing and communicating its priorities, capabilities, and strategy, including both ESA’s Voyage 2050 process and the next US planetary decadal survey.

Bursaries to Support Europlanet Society Members at EPSC 2020 Virtual Meeting
The Europlanet Society has secured sponsorship to support up to 40 bursaries for researchers from under-represented states and early career (within 7 years of last degree) at the EPSC 2020 Virtual Meeting.
Successful bursary applicants will be able to reclaim the EPSC2020 abstract processing fee of 50€. A call for applications will be announced following the issue of letters of acceptance for abstracts for EPSC2020. To be eligible, applicants should be a member of the Europlanet Society.

This new world-wide collaboration between telescopes should provide coordinated observations and rapid, efficient responses in support of planetary research.

7th Solid Earth Doctoral Training
Les Houches, France, 19-30 October
For this Covid-19 edition, participants can attend the school on site (registrations are open here) or remotely, through interactive live broadcast (free but upon registration), or passive live broadcast (free). The programme includes six lectures and research seminars, all in English.

Joana Marques Oliveira
Joana is currently studying for a PhD at the Paris Observatory, using occultations to study the atmosphere of Triton and find out if it has changed in any way between 1989 and 2017. She has also been very involved in outreach programmes and in the Occultations group. She supports EPEC as Chair of the Finances Group. Read Joana's full profile

Interview with Carol Raymond
For this final interview meet Dr. Carol Raymond, Manager of JPL’s Small Bodies Program. She has served as Deputy Principal Investigator (PI) on the NASA Dawn Discovery Mission to Vesta and Ceres, two protoplanets in the Main Asteroid Belt, and as Dawn’s PI for the second extended mission.
Her key piece of advice is to stay flexible in following the path of your interest. She also shares the positive experience of how collaborative teamwork can make great things can happen.

PhD Position - Molecular astrophysics and astrochemistry
Institude of Physics, Rennes, France
The Institute of Physics in Rennes is offering a fully-funded PhD position for 3 years on the ERC Advanced Grant Project CRESUCHIRP, starting from October 2020.
The PhD position will conduct experimental research in fundamental chemical physics and reaction kinetics, with particular application to molecular astrophysics and astrochemistry.
Deadline for application: 31 July 2020, but applications will be studied as they are received!
