PCAB and PPA partners continue to support communities during pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has unfortunately taken a heavy toll on the Amazon region. It has also isolated many communities, cutting access to supply lines and livelihoods. Partners of the PCAB and Partnership Platform for the Amazon (PPA)  have supported Amazon communities by changing their activities and modes of work to help protect vulnerable populations, and some have acted in response to the more pressing needs caused by the pandemic.

United States announces additional US $2.5 million in COVID-19 related assistance for Brazil
The United States has announced new health funding that will provide immediate support to vulnerable communities of the Amazon. This assistance is in addition to the US $950,000 previously announced on May 1 for economic support for vulnerable populations in Brazil.
PPA-accelerated businesses help protect 873,000 hectares of forest

The Partnership Platform for the Amazon's Acceleration Program has completed the impact assessment of its first year in operation. The 15 businesses created 251 direct jobs, benefiting 110 communities spread over 43 municipalities and 5 states.

Project seeks to strengthen environmental and territorial management of indigenous communities in Amazonian states
The project, implemented by the  Indigenist Work Center (CTI), envisages the creation of a fund to support micro and small projects with a view to promoting well-being and local productive activities.
Participatory Biodiversity Monitoring project aims to democratize knowledge in the Legal Amazon
Project is developed by IPÊ and ICMBio with PCAB parnership to monitor biodiversity and strenghten conservation in protected areas.
USAID partnership launches innovative tool to assess the impact of investment on biodiversity conservation
TerraBio, a program that brings together USAID/Brazil, the Alliance of Bioversity International/CIAT and the private sector, will set a new monitoring standard for the Amazon.

The Peabiru Institute has developed a Non-stinging bee Value Chain Dossier, which presents the research on the natives species in the region, the importance of bee keeping for the communities, legislation, access to markets and other information. Lear more at Peabiru´s site.
 
The Pirarucu Collected presente the Flavor of the Amazon to 900 French businessmen in French International Chamber of Conference annual conference in Lyon on January 10th. Chefs Frédéric Monnier and Andressa Cabral, from Rio de Janeiro, and Ana Claudia Torres, Fish Management Program Coordinator of Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamirauá, were invited by the French tire manufacturer Michelin to represent the Gosto da Amazônia initiative  The initiative was created by the Pirarucu Collective with support from PCAB’s Value Chains Program, works to promote fair trade in the sustainably managed pirarucu value chain, open new markets, improve lives and promote nature conservation in the Amazon.
