Good Afternoon!
I don’t know about you, but I’m struggling to grasp what I’ve witnessed and learned over the past week. The harsh realities of being a Black person in our country have been brought to the forefront in a way that will stay with me forever.
I’ve had deep and honest conversations filled with tears with my colleagues, had passionate discussions with my niece who lives in Brooklyn and has an insatiable passion to right racial inequalities, and have spent time examining my own prejudices, beliefs, and behavior.
With protestors standing up against the many wrongs that have been committed against people of color for decades, many in our nation have become divided in their opinions and philosophies. They’re making sense of all of the information (news accounts, videos, and articles), becoming truly educated on the issues, deciding what their next steps are, and trying to figure it all out.
Our own Dr. Nikel Rogers-Wood, Ph.D. wrote a very moving and eye-opening piece this week on her perspective of the many protests in our cities. Titled, “Protests in America: Why They’re Happening and Why We Should Listen,” Dr. Rogers-Wood will show you the importance of listening to others during this difficult time in our nation’s history.
