This Sunday, Jesus tells us: "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers for harvesting." In the very next breath, we're told that Jesus summoned his 12 disciples and sent them forth into the harvest.
These twelve apostles were a rather remarkable dozen in an unremarkable way. These ordinary, ill-equipped, people are the ones chosen by Jesus, and these ordinary people do extraordinary ministry.
Is it not the same for us? Who among us is qualified and fit to proclaim and to live the gospel for an unbelieving world? Who among us feels capable and competent to be a shepherd to harassed and helpless people and to heal a broken world in the name of Jesus?
In these times with the challenge of a coronavirus, racial injustice, and global warming, it's all very overwhelming. You may not feel qualified, but perhaps Jesus sees more potential in you than you see in yourself. As frail — but Jesus-like people — we go in the name of Jesus, and in his power and authority. We go forth with his compassion, love, grace, and mercy. Jesus promises that he will give us what we need to be faithful to him and his mission. And he promises that we shall proclaim a word of hope to a dying world and offer healing for a broken people.
Please join us in worship this Sunday where we receive strength to be his followers and to witness and serve in every aspect of life.

The Call Committee continues to work with the ELCA Pacifica Synod to find the pastor who best fits Calvary by the Sea’s needs and dreams in this new time. God knows who will best serve Calvary by the Sea as we work together to meet the needs of our community.
