This is the 48th issue of Vicious Shivers,
a (mostly) weekly newsletter for fans of my work.

I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
I'm trying something a little different today. For a while now, this newsletter has gone out on Sunday morning. But I thought I'd shake things up a bit. I wanted to see what happens with open rates and the like by sending it out mid-week. My rates are fine but could always be better. It might change nothing. I might revert back to Sundays. Or I might stick with Wednesdays. And if you are a die-hard Sunday morning newsletter reader, just hang on to this for a few more days and it will feel like old times!

I've started tracking my to-do list with index cards. In the past I've used planners and online to-do lists, but I've never been good at staying on top of the list that way. Now, I place the index cards on magnetic clips on my white board. I'm able to move them around as timelines and priorities change. I mark each project with a little icon representing "money" or "time-sensitive" so I can easily identify which projects will bring me cash and which need to be done now-now-now. Obviously, those marked as both "time-sensitive" and "money-sensitive" are moved to the front of the pack. I'd show you a pic of the board, but there are several secret/unannounced projects on the list.

This week, I focused on knocking a short story that has been looming over me for a while now off the list. The story was mostly finished, but I simply couldn't get it across the finish line. I'm happy to say, it's all done now. "The Grasp of Wraiths" will be appearing in an upcoming project titled CENTRALIA that you'll be hearing much, much more about soon!

A few weeks back, I mentioned a really cool project that OmahaBound was tackling--the REGRESSION Creator Curated Edition!

A Custom Bound Hard Cover Book collecting the 15 issues series from Cullen Bunn, Danny Luckert, and Marie Enger. Featuring a new cover by Danny, signed by Cullen and Danny, and a unique sketch by Danny inside each volume.

The Creator Curated Edition will be limited to 20 copies or fewer.

This week, I wrote up a bunch of "past life cards" for those who purchase the book! Each card features a unique past life, name, career, cause of death, so readers can know who they used to be! It was a fun little exercise for me! The cards featured the art my dad used to use for his hypnosis act in the 70s, so they were also a nice little slice of nostalgia for me!

I've taken up early morning walks. In part, it's exercise. I wouldn't mind building up to running. Although I loathe running. But I also loathe how unhealthy I've been feeling since quarantine began. But I also use those morning walks to focus and prepare for the day. I've been listening to audio books during the walks, too, and I love it. A couple of mornings ago, I saw a couple of foxes. The first one I saw was sitting so still, I thought it was a ceramic garden statue. When it decided to take off, it dashed away too quickly for me to snap a photo. The second I spotted keeping pace with me. It was in a thick patch of woods to my left. When I stopped walking, it stopped walking. When I started up, it followed. It was a nice way to start the day. I haven't seen them since, but I walk the same route every morning in hopes of spotting them again.

WEEKLY OBSESSIONS

This week I'm...

Reading - I've been re-reading the CORUM books by Michael Moorcock. I also just started KINGS OF THE WYLD by Nicholas Eames. It's about a group of famous adventurers who are long past their prime getting the band back together for one last quest!

Watching - My son and I finished the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, and we're starting THE HOBBIT moves now.

Playing - Still playing D&D once or twice a week.

Drinking - I wasn't sure I'd like them, but I've had a couple of Leinenkugel Summer Shandies that were really good. Also, Rickorderlig Ciders, which can be uneasy to track down here in the states, are so damn refreshing.

WHERE TO FIND ME ONLINE
