Rep. Craig Hall's May / Early June Legislative Update!
Craig Hall - Utah House of Representatives, District 33

May / early June 2020 Legislative Highlights

Hope you are having a great Summer! Thanks again for your support and for contacting me regarding any issue you would like to discuss.

COVID-19 Status

I hope you're doing well and being safe during this time. Some of the best information and resources are available at the State's Coronavirus website at coronavirus.utah.gov. This includes the following resources: Please continue to stay safe. Feel free to reach out anytime.

Thank You Utah

I addressed in a previous email the protests that we have seen over the last several days. I echo the words of my friend and colleague Rep. Sandra Hollins (African-American member of the legislature), along with those of Salt Lake City Mayor Mendenhall and Governor Herbert. There needs to be change. There needs to be a meaningful and real conversation about race and police relations. What happened in Minneapolis was horrific. We encourage peaceful protests. Thank you so much to those who helped to stop the violence and property damage. Violence and property damage distracts from the legitimate message.

One of the things that helped my spirits was the number of people who wanted to help. Immediately. This video emerged last Sunday morning. It didn't take long for Utahns to kick in to help. Click on the following to see the video:

NAACP / Law Enforcement Press Conference

Friday I attended in support a press conference put together by the NAACP. The NAACP, elected leaders and law enforcement all announced at the press conference meaningful reforms and legislation that can be accomplished in Utah. Thanks so much to those who are engaged in the process. Thanks to Jeanetta Williams (NAACP Salt Lake President), and to law enforcement, for coming together and discussing how we can do better.

Visit With the Utah National Guard

Thursday I was able to be part of a group who visited with, and helped deliver water, sports drinks, treats, thanks and smiles (behind masks) to the men and women of the Utah National Guard. Special thanks to Jennie Taylor, who organized the delivery effort. She is the widow of Major Brent Taylor, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Thanks to all these men and women who continually stand ready to answer the call of duty.

Congratulations Granger High School 2020 Grads

I took a walk around our neighborhoods a few weeks ago, and saw these. Feel so bad for the HS seniors, whose senior year absolutely did not go as planned. 😢 Thanks for being tough and best of luck to the Class of 2020. Go Lancers! And thanks to the great administration for putting together a nice replacement for the typical graduation ceremony.

Congratulations to Granite School District Highly Effective Teachers

The legislature has set up a couple of programs that encourages teachers to teach at Title 1 schools (there are several Title 1 schools within West Valley). One program tracks "growth" among students (along with other measures) and awards teachers whose students show a high degree of growth. I was fortunate to visit these teachers, who live within District 33, and help deliver their bonus checks with Granite School District administration. Congratulations!

"Awesome & Amazing" PTA President

For the last year my wife Becky has served as the Granger High School PTA President. Today this sign showed up on our lawn. She is indeed “Awesome and Amazing.” Thanks Granger High School administration, teachers and students for all the great work you do!

2020 Rep. Craig Hall Campaign

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 30, 2020.  Although I won't be on your ballot for this upcoming primary election (I don't have a primary election opponent), I encourage everyone to vote. Due to COVID-19, this is an entirely vote-by-mail election. Your ballot must be postmarked by Tuesday, June 30.  The County Clerk's Office has indicated that most of you will likely receive your ballot sometime this week. If you have any questions regarding the Primary Election, call the Salt Lake County Elections Office at 385-468-7400.

Thanks to all those who have already contacted our campaign and offered to help (and/or donate)! Here's to victory in November!
