Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,
After spending the past two weeks reflecting, unlearning, listening, and having discussions with the chuthis. team, I would like to speak candidly about my extreme disappointment in our government and our society. I promote and advocate for many different issues, but I am usually discrete about what I do — I am a doer.
As a biracial American with a Chinese father, it is culturally ingrained in me to respect others by listening and not challenging my elders, even when doing so peacefully! I have struggled with this my entire life and with my own family. I was not given the tools to speak up for what I believe in or to stand up for what is right. My strengths have always been with listening and having empathy. Now, more than ever, I feel the need to speak up instead of only “doing” and being silent about my beliefs.
I recognize that we are at a turning point in American history, one where we can hopefully see justice be served to the BIPOC community. The abuse of power that I have witnessed over my four decades of life needs to stop now. It is merely incomprehensible that we are living with centuries of racist systems and policies built to disenfranchise and marginalize BIPOC. We, as a society, MUST do better. We are all a part of the same system. So, I urge my network of allies to take the time to vote and PLEASE vote for humanity! I ask you to vote for moral justice and not for individual gain!
chuthis. stands firmly in support of the peaceful protests, and we advocate for fundamental change to policies that neither protect nor strengthen our poor and BIPOC communities, but rather serve to tear down and oppress them. We at chuthis. will continue to build upon our initiatives, to educate ourselves, and to help advance justice.
I promise to continue to strive for justice, lead collaborative, action-centered discussions within my community, and to examine my own practices through an antiracist lens. I promise to continue to listen to the needs of our communities.
My heart is heavy, but that is not enough! I hear you. I support you. I am with you.
Enough is enough.
In solidarity,
Peter and chuthis.
