Greetings Core Users,

We hope that each of you is doing well and staying healthy.

As part of the Medical School Research Reactivation Process guidelines, a wave 2 ramp-up will begin on Monday, June 8th for labs and staff who conduct research within:

  • MSRB 1, 2, 3
  • MBNI
  • NCRC 14, 23, 36, 60, 90
  • NCRC 26 &35 VIVARIUM ONLY

The Proteomics & Peptide Synthesis Core has been approved to reopen for labs and staff who conduct research within MSRB. Clients from other buildings that are already open should email the Core at hremmer@umich.edu for access to the Core.

As we start up research projects again, it is important to understand that due to mandatory social distancing guidelines, core operations will be different than in the past. New operational guidelines are outlined below, and we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Ramp-up Procedures for the Proteomics & Peptide Synthesis Core

In the ramp-up phase, we will be present in the wet lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 am-1:00 pm, to accept samples.  We will follow the EHS checklist for Restarting Research Activities and the Cleaning and Disinfection Protocol for the Prevention of COVID-19 in U-M Laboratory Facilities. The individual working in the lab space will wear gloves and a mask and ensure social distancing of at least 6 feet.

The sample submission process for proteomics services is as follows:

  1. To initiate sample submission please email Dr. Henriette Remmer at hremmer@umich.edu to register your samples, ask questions and submit the request form.
  2. You will get an appointment to bring your sample to the Core. This appointment will be Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
  3. You will enter through the Proteomics Core door in lab C568 MSRB II and only proceed up to the tape-marking on the floor. Please place your samples in the sample drop off box to your right and step back towards the door. The client will leave the lab and we will subsequently approach the sample box to take the samples and start processing.

For peptide synthesis services: While peptide orders are handled completely electronically, appointments will be necessary for peptide pick-up. When you enter the Proteomics Core, stay in the doorway, the peptide will be taken out of the freezer and placed in the peptide synthesis box by core personnel. Then we step back and you can pick up the peptide. Any questions will be handled electronically.

Thank you all for your patience and cooperation as we take these first steps in reopening research at the University of Michigan. If you have any questions, please contact me at hremmer@umich.edu.

Thank you,

Henriette A. Remmer, Ph.D.
