School Opening Update
Oregon Department of Education/Oregon Health Authority Guidelines

C.S. Lewis Academy is continuing to work in high gear with plans to open the 2020-21 school year on time, and on campus. On June 10, 2020, the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority released the first set of guidelines for all schools to follow for opening in the fall on campuses. Referred to as "Ready Schools, Safe Learners," this was version 1.0 of an expected four versions that will be released prior to the start of the school year.

There were no major surprises in the guidelines and CSLA, with small class sizes, seems ready for this challenge. There will be more sanitizing and other safety precautions, but nothing that seems at this time to alter our basic practices. There may be small adjustments to arrival or lunch times, or other times larger groups gather, but our classroom sizes and expected enrollment should allow us to operate most of what we do in a very normal routine.

We are not currently evaluating any type of hybrid model, as our enrollment doesn't cause that method to be a necessary option. We are currently reviewing and completing the documents required while awaiting the next version. We did appreciate the feedback we received from our parents on our recent survey and we're keeping those results in mind in any area we have flexibility.

We will release updates as we have any definite news to report. While we are also working on contingency plans for a campus pause before or after the school year starts, our plan right now is that we will be ready for our students in September unless we are required to pivot to our teacher-led at-home learning model. We are anxious to have our students in our classrooms!

A heartfelt goodbye to Ms. Cavanaugh and a CSLA welcome to Angelene Garlinghouse

Kim Cavanaugh has warmly and enthusiastically taught our youngest students for the past 2 years. She is a nurturing teacher who we are sad to lose from our faculty, but pray for her as she attends to her family and personal needs. Thank you, Ms. Cavanaugh, we will miss you!

God always watches over CSLA and led us immediately to Angelene Garlinghouse. Mrs. Garlinghouse comes highly recommended and has substantial experience as both a homeschool and classroom teacher. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Christian Service, and her Master of Theology from Salt Lake Baptist Bible College. She will have children attending CSLA as well. Welcome, Mrs. Garlinghouse.

Know a family who would be a great fit for CSLA?
Remember our $500 Tuition Referral Credit!

As families look forward to school in the fall, CSLA is well positioned with our small class sizes to meet the expected requirements pertaining to the Covid 19 crisis. As decisions are made for school enrollment for 2020-21, please keep an eye out for families who would be a good fit for our school. Forward the contact information of Kim Eubanks to anyone interested! GO WATCHMEN!

WAIT LIST? Due to the continued increase in interest in CSLA and the expected reopening guidelines which regulate minimum square footage per student, we have a few classes that are starting to push our enrollment caps. If you know of interested families, you might tell them to act soon as we are expecting at least a class or two that will fill up.
