June 12th was the last day of first grade for Felicity. This past school term was “home-based” so Brenda administered the curriculum, much like during our stays in Avevete. The Ukarumpa International School at the mission center is working towards having the upcoming school year “face-to-face” once more. In an effort to align with challenges from the Covid-19 presence at a world-level, the school year will begin August 12th at the earliest. Marie is eager to begin Kindergarten.
Restrictions on travel within Papua New Guinea have been lifted. Our family has decided (in light of the school’s proposed schedule) to travel to Avevete as soon as possible. Our helicopter flight is scheduled for June 30th.
Amazingly, the next batch of technological tools for equipping the Pamosu translators has arrived. Jason has been testing out equipment and loading software. He is all set to distribute the items and instruct the translators in their use.
Among the items we will be bringing with us this trip are the applications for a training course scheduled for October 16th- 7th November. Please pray that these courses will take place. For many translators these courses form the foundation of their understanding of practical translation methods.
During these months of preparation (in hope), watching, and waiting, our children have been able to see a few new things. Around our neighborhood at the mission center our children have especially enjoyed visiting the snakes and turtle in the backyard of the first grade teacher. Norman continues to collect and study insects. Gardening and harvesting fruits have been highlights of our time outdoors. We all have found new ways to play, building swings and obstacle courses in the yard around our house.
Thankful God’s mercies are new every morning,
