Space grants announced

A momentous week for the Australian space industry, with grants awarded as part of the International Space Investment initiative and Space Infrastructure Fund. Ten Australian companies have been awarded a share of $11m in grants as part of the International Space Investment Initiative, supporting supports strategic space projects that build relationships with international space agencies. The projects demonstrate the breadth and quality of small and medium-sized companies and researchers in Australia, from space suits to advanced chip manufacturing.  Read more.

SPACE INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING

Grant to establish national space Mission Control Centre

Saber Astronautics, a company with space bases in Sydney and Boulder, Colorado, has been awarded a $6 million grant to establish the national centre in Adelaide.

Perth supercomputing grant to enhance space data

WA's Pawsey Supercomputing Centre has been awarded a $1.5 million grant to establish a new space data analysis facility in Perth.

WA company gets $4.5m grant to develop new space centre

WA company Fugro Australia Marine has been awarded a $4.5 million grant to develop a space command and control complex in Perth for robotics and artificial intelligence.

Gilmour and UQ building launch capabilities

Gilmour Space, and the University of Queensland are partnering to develop new technologies for an Australian-made rocket that will be launching small satellites into low Earth orbits from 2022. Read more.

RAAF high altitude balloon launch

The first in a series of high-altitude balloon launch trials took off in rural NSW, with Jasper, the RAAF's STEM ambassador on board. The balloons will help to exploit the under-utilised altitudes between where aircraft generally fly and space, giving a wide view on what’s happening below. Read more.

Defence appoints Clearbox to provide SATCOM capabilities

The Department of Defence has selected Australian small business Clearbox Systems to enhance its global SATCOM network. Read more.

UNSW Canberra launches another Australian satellite

UNSW Canberra has launched the M2 Pathfinder satellite. It will test home grown communications architecture and other satellite technologies. Read more.
