MAEBB students present their final design for an Quarantine cabin using ecological principles

The contagious nature of COVID-19 demands self-sufficiency at the domestic scale. The MAEBB will meet this challenge by designing and prototyping a quickly deployable, Quarantine cabin, to be used in the nature or in cities.

10 years of the first Solar House manufactured in Barcelona by the IAAC, for the Solar Decathlon Europe

The building is entirely made of wood, produced with digital manufacturing, both in its structure and the façade. High-efficiency flexible photovoltaic panels were innovated and the house was managed to be disconnected from the grid.

Valldaura produces its first cross-laminated timber panel from local wood!

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is one of the key technologies revolutionizing wood architecture. Made from gluing (or doweling) together perpendicular layers of solid sawn lumber, CLT achieves large spans and can be used in walls, roofs and ceilings, offering extreme design flexibility.

Valldaura Labs in the end of lockdown

After nearly 14 weeks in which the need to protect Valldaura from COVID-19 required the sealing off of the campus, lockdown is finally ending this Sunday. Also, some students who chose to travel home for the confinement period are now resuming their residence.

Five new beehives installed at Valldaura Labs!
 

The new hives have been populated with European Honey Bees brought from Tarragona, one of Catalonia’s most famous regions of Apiculture.

Collserola ecology reborn during confinement

During Barcelona’s two-month coronavirus lockdown period the flora and fauna of the Collserola Natural Park, which typically requires careful maintenance to balance ecological protections with human enjoyment, was left to thrive without disturbance.

MWCapital is an initiative that promotes the digital development of society and helps to improve people’s lives globally. In particular, the first two projects to be developed will deal with high-precision digital manufacturing in a distributed manner and self-sufficient buildings.
