Silver Spring Restaurants on Georgia Avenue Offering Dining in Expanded Outdoor Space as ‘StreetDINE’

Many restaurants in Silver Spring's 'restaurant row' along the Fenton Village area of Georgia Avenue are serving patrons at tables in expanded outdoor space in an innovative “StreetDINE” pilot project to welcome socially distanced dining. The north bound right lanes of Georgia Avenue will be temporarily closed for StreetDINE and the parking lane will serve as the primary pedestrian flow to accommodate the expanded seating on the sidewalk.

Some restaurants will be serving meals to the outdoor tables. Others will have diners order takeout meals and then offer them table space to enjoy those meals. And now in Phase II some restaurants are offering limited indoor dining.

Takoma Streetery

The business side of Laurel Avenue, Takoma Park will be closed to vehicular traffic in order to create the Takoma Streetery - an area for visitors and businesses to spread out to allow for social distancing.

This repurposed public space will offer a community patio, restaurant dining areas, outdoor retail spots and a pedestrian walkway. For additional information on this initiative, read more here.

Find outdoor dining options available throughout the Takoma commercial district at Spring Mill Bread Co, Mark's Kitchen, Cielo Rojo, Trattoria Da Lina, Carpe Diem Pizzeria, Busboys and Poets, The Girl and the Vine, Roscoe's Pizzeria and Takoma Beverage Co. Coming soon: Great Shoals Winery Tasting Room, Takoma Station Tavern and The Olive Lounge.

Virtual IMPACT Now!

"We're all in this together," the phrase that has become ubiquitous over the past three months of the COVID-19 crisis, is even more meaningful today than ever.  With the May 25th murder of George Floyd (the most recent victim in a long history of Black people killed by police officers), we've seen protests and vigils rise up across the country and here in Montgomery County.  Protestors and mourners are of all colors and stripes, young people and elders, long-time activists and newbies to the fight.

As events swirl around us, we at IMPACT remain unwavering in our pursuit of racial equity, justice, and liberation. While much of our focus these last several months has been on addressing the disparate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, we are also determining our wise and productive next steps.  This requires stillness and reflection, but it also requires tapping into the spirit of connection that is so alive in these protest and vigil spaces.

Please save the date and plan to join us on Wednesday, June 24, 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm for virtual IMPACT Now!.  Look for more information about this event coming soon.

Farmers Markets

 FRESHFARMS
Downtown Silver Spring

Saturdays
 9AM TO 1PM
(on Ellsworth and Veterans Plaza)

During the COVID-19 crisis, our farmers markets remain OPEN, but we are implementing practices to ensure the safety and hygiene of all shoppers and vendors. Below find additional ways you can support our small, local businesses while reducing the risk to yourself and others during these uncertain times. (This list will be updated on an ongoing basis.)Pre-Order, Delivery, & On-Farm Pickup Options

In an effort to reduce customers’ time spent at market, better meet demands, expedite transactions, and limit currency exchange, vendors are offering pre-order + pick-up options at market or even on the farm.

Can’t make it to the market? Many vendors will deliver their goods straight to your door.

You can also view pre-order options, planned vendor absences, and ordering deadlines in this spreadsheet

NEW Managed Entrance, Exit and Limits to Customers in Market:
In its continued efforts to ensure social distancing, the market will be enforcing its Entrance (next to Suntrust Bank, 6931 Laurel Ave), introduce a new Exit (via the sidewalk next to the parking lot ramp exit onto Eastern Ave) and limit the number of customers in the market at any time. (With exceptions for seniors and the physically challenged).

Social Distancing and 1 Shopper Per Family
Vendors continue to work on flow, lines and social distancing at individual booths. Please wear a face mask to the market and help maintain a distance of 6' from other customers at all times. To reduce the number of people at the market, only send 1 person per family to shop (no kids, please). Please only touch what you would like to purchase and leave as soon as you are done.

Have You Completed Your Census?

The 2020 Census is a count of everyone who lives in the United States and determines resources and representation. Montgomery County will lose $18,250 for every person not counted over the next 10 years. This money goes towards hospitals, schools, school meals, senior programs and much more. Census data also determines representation and helps us decide where we put grocery stores, affordable housing and how to expand public transportation. It affects almost every aspect of our daily lives! We need to ensure EVERYONE in Montgomery County is counted. The U.S. Census Bureau must keep all information confidential.

By now you should have received your invitation to complete the 2020 Census. If you haven’t completed your census already, please take the next 10 minutes to respond online using a desktop computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet by visiting 2020Census.gov. You can also respond via phone in English or 12 other languages at 844-330-2020. There are also 59 non-English language guides and videos (plus American Sign Language) available on 2020Census.gov ensuring over 99 percent of U.S. households can respond online in their preferred language.Take 10 minutes to be counted for the next 10 years and remember that the 2020 Census is Safe & Confidential, Easy and Important.
