Is a Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Nearly Upon Us At Last?

Mass-Effect-2_Screenshot5.jpg

Greetings, Disciples of the Blood God!

In a generation dominated by remasters, one beloved series has been notably absent: Mass Effect. Despite pining from fans for an updated version playable on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, Mass Effect is really only accessible through Xbox Live and PC. That may change soon.

Rumors have been swirling that a Mass Effect Trilogy is on the way, with a reveal potentially set for Thursday's EA Play event. That would be big news for RPG fans, as the original trilogy is more than a decade old at this point. With Mass Effect Andromeda being such a disappointment, it would be nice to remember why people fell in love with the series in the first place.

The original Mass Effect games stood out for the scope and scale of their storytelling. Developed by RPG masters BioWare, it crafted a sprawling space opera set across three games, with Commander Shepard's story unfolding based on player decisions. It was a massive achievement for its time, and it still holds up pretty well today.

We rated the original Mass Effect among our Top 25 RPGs of all time, and we would love to have a playable version, particularly on Nintendo Switch. It would be a nice little win for BioWare, and it would signal stronger support by EA for Switch. Better late than never, right?

We'll know more when EA Play kicks off tomorrow at 4pm PT / 7pm ET. Keep an eye on USG for all of the coverage coming out of the event.

Stay Safe and Happy Adventuring,

Kat
