Bede's Book Club: July and August Selections
For the next book club gathering on Wednesday, July 8, we are reading A Wing and A Prayer: A Message of Faith and Hope by Kathryn Jefferts Schori. Written in 2007, this is the personal story of Katharine Jefferts Schori, who served as Bishop of the Diocese of Nevada from 2001 to 2006 and as Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church from 2006 to 2015 (until Michael Curry was invested in the position). During her tenure in Nevada, Jefferts Schiori distinguished herself by piloting her plane to remote parishes around the sprawling diocese to meet with congregations. In this book she shares her passionate message of reconciliation and peace.
For the August meeting on Wednesday, August 5, the selected book is Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor. The renowned and beloved New York Times bestselling author recounts her moving discoveries of finding the sacred in unexpected places while teaching the world’s religions to undergraduates in rural Georgia, revealing how God delights in confounding our expectations. The Book Club meets at 9:30 a.m. on these days via Zoom; contact Laura Gable at lwgable@hotmail.com for a meeting invite.
