Salem-Keizer's new Director of Communications and Community Relations... is it you?

Salem-Keizer Public Schools in Salem, Oregon seeks another great leader, and we invite you to apply for the position of Director of Communications and Community Relations. In this role you will serve as the district’s public information officer, overseeing a staff of seven and serving as the key advisor to the Superintendent on all matters related to communications (both external and internal) and community involvement.  We are looking for a dynamic, equity-minded communications leader to serve in this important role. Our newest teammate will be committed to the work of diversity and inclusion, and will oversee the vital work of engaging with our community and stakeholders by creating multiple pathways of high-quality two-way communication. The Director is a key player in ensuring outstanding information flow in order to support the needs of our parents and families, soliciting their voices in addition to those of our community partners, vital civic entities, staff, and students.

Our home, the picturesque Willamette Valley, is one of the most fertile regions in the United States, making it a culinary and wine-lover’s delight, while also being the political and urban center for Oregon. Right in the middle of this paradise you will find the cities of Salem and Keizer and the Salem-Keizer School District. Salem-Keizer is the second largest school district in the state, serving over 42,000 students in 65 schools and we are a diverse school community, with 52% of our students identifying as students of color. We have over 81 languages spoken and we serve the largest ELL and migrant populations in the state. Some special areas of focus and success include our improved graduation rates, growth of our career technical programs, outstanding performing arts programming, fully implemented AVID in all secondary schools, and dual language and bilingual programs K-12. Our schools are strongly supported by the community as evidenced by the thousands of hours of school-based volunteer time logged each year and the recent passage of a $600 million facilities improvement bond.

If you are ready to be inspired professionally and personally, then the Salem-Keizer School District and the Willamette Valley await your application.  Click here for application materials and supporting documents. Please feel free to forward this to any communications professionals of outstanding talent. The position is open until June 29, and we encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.
