Hello Awesome Families! We are missing all of your children's faces and voices! Boyer is such a great space for creativity and learning, but we can have plenty of fun at home too. Check out these ideas from our educators. (If you have not scheduled a Virtual Visit with your team, it's simple! Learn more here.)

Boyer is taking a little break June 29-July 3. Look for the next newsletter on July 13.
READING
Maisy Goes Camping uses simple language and vibrant, colorful illustrations to make this a great book for toddlers. Practice pointing to and naming familiar animals, objects, and colors. The story is simple to follow and introduces some opposite concepts of big/small and empty/full and too much/not enough. Practice these concepts at home by showing and describing these concepts with familiar objects like toys and stuffed animals. You can practice fitting objects into containers/bags or even a tent and talk about what fits and what does not.
Flashlight is a fun story of discovery. It can help promote attention to the page to follow what the flashlight is highlighting. See if your child can name the object illuminated by the flashlight. It is a story of anticipation and the theme repeats so your child can begin to predict what may come next. Try acting out the book at home as well by having the child follow the light of a flashlight as you highlight objects around your home.

GROSS MOTOR
In a dark room, shine a flashlight on the floor, low on a wall or at the top of a staircase. After your child spots the light, help them move to it! They can crawl, walk or run to get the light. Have kids try to walk backwards or crawl like a bear.

Rainy day? Turn your living room into a campground. Sheets, blankets, stuffed animals and lights make a tent for the whole family.

CAMPING SNACK
You don't have to go camping to enjoy this tasty trail mix recipe. Substitute ingredients with whatever you have in your pantry. Encourage kids to help you measure, pour and stir!

NUT-FREE TRAIL MIX
2 cups Rice Chex
2 cups Cheerios
3/4 cup pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
2 Tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chocolate covered sunflower seeds, optional
1/2 cup dried blueberries
1 Tbsp brown sugar, optional
Pinch of salt, optional

Scoop cereals and pumpkin seeds in a large, microwave-safe bowl. Pour butter in and stir well to coat. Sprinkle in cinnamon (and sugar if using) while stirring. Microwave 90 seconds. Stir. Microwave an additional 90 seconds. Spread on a baking sheet to cool and sprinkle with the pinch of salt. When cool, add dried blueberries and sunflower seeds.
ART
Tsege used hand prints for the fire on this camping-inspired project. You will need: paint, construction paper, glue, a skewer and rolled paper. If you don't have construction paper, consider using grocery bags, cereal boxes or magazine pages for the logs. The marshmallows could be cotton balls or just cut them out of white paper. No skewer? Help your child find a stick outside. If your child doesn't want to dip their hands in the paint, try painting it onto their hands with a soft brush or sponge. You might even get a giggle as you tickle them with the brush! Have a wash cloth nearby for quick cleanup.
PS. As we face this pandemic, philanthropic support is more crucial than ever! Gifts of all amounts will make a significant impact. Please consider making a gift today to help meet the most urgent needs of our Boyer community.
