Your voice is needed. Right Now. Today.
Yesterday, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted the FY'21 Budget out of Committee. The budget included an $800,000 cut to the budget for feminine hygiene products in schools. It is our understanding this cut is in addition to the 6% cut previously imposed by the Governor. If so, all that remains of the legislature's intended $1M budget allocation for period supplies in schools is
$140,000!
- If you are a School Nurse, Teacher or Counselor, write and say how important these funds are to keeping students in class and learning.
- If you are a parent, speak of how your child has missed school or waited in an office while you brought products to school because they were not available when unexpected, NORMAL, life occurrences happened.
- If you are on a limited budget and having to choose between food and products for your child, tell your story, especially how you are effected during these severe financial times!
To everyone, discuss that this is an 86% cut from the legislature's initial intention! This is punitive and extreme and once again, the legislature is balancing the budget disproportionately on the backs of women!
