Parshas Shelach - Shishi with Rashi

Today in Chumash we learn about a very special mitzvah that’s PERFECT to learn on a Friday — Hafroshas Challah! We also learn about the Korban that we need to give if the Sanhedrin made a mistake that caused all the Yidden to serve Avodah Zara.
When the Yidden come into Eretz Yisroel, they will have to give some of their dough as a present to Hashem, by giving it to the Kohen. This is called Hafroshas Challah! (Nowadays, we burn the challah dough.)
If all of the Yidden make a mistake and serve Avodah Zarah, the Yidden need to bring a korban of a bull (with its Mincha and Nesech like we learned yesterday) as a Korban Olah, and a goat as a Korban Chatas.
And once they bring that korban, “Venislach Lechol Adas Bnei Yisroel, VelaGer HaGar Besocham, Ki Lechol HaAm Bishgaga.” Hashem will forgive all of the Yidden, because it was a mistake.

Today’s Tehillim are the 15 Shir Hamaalos.
The Rebbe Maharash once said that if someone doesn’t have parnasa, it’s not really the parnasa that is missing, it’s the bitachon in Hashem that is missing!
A Chossid once complained to the Rebbe Maharash about how hard it is for him at home, because he has no money. He said (from today’s Tehillim), “MeiAyin Yavo Ezri?” “Where will my help come from?”
The Rebbe Maharash answered, “Your answer is in the next posuk! ‘Ezri Me’Im Hashem, Osei Shomayim VaAretz!’ Your help comes from Hashem, Who takes care of everything in the Shomayim and the earth. He gives everything what it needs in the right time, and He will take care of you too!”

Shaar Hayichud Veha'emunah Perek Ches

In the first half of Shaar Hayichud Veha’emunah, the Alter Rebbe explained the posuk Veyadaata Hayom, where Moshe Rabbeinu tells the Yidden that they should know (Veyadaata) that Hashem Hu Ha’elokim, and Ein Od Milvado — there is nothing aside for Hashem. The Alter Rebbe helped us to be able to look at the world where Hashem is hidden and still KNOW that there is nothing aside for Hashem. Now we are learning what the Rambam says is impossible for a person to properly understand — about Achdus Hashem (Hu Vedaato Echad). This we will have to take with Emunah.
We are learning that we have no mashal to understand Achdus Hashem, how Hashem is one with all of the sefiros. Why not? Because any mashal we have is from the way things are with US, and that’s NOT the way they are with Hashem!
Today the Alter Rebbe reviews the levels we have in our neshama. But we will see that even the highest koach of our neshama which we can imagine is too low to be even used as a mashal for Hashem at all!
There are five levels in how the neshama expresses itself. From highest to lowest:
1) Chochmah: (knowing) like knowing about someone who needs help
2) Midos: (feeling) like feeling Rachmonus for the person
3) Machshava: (thinking) like thinking about how to help him
4) Dibur: (talking) like talking to someone about a plan for what to do
5) Maaseh: (doing) like giving the person what he needs
Even Chochmah is only the highest level in the way Hashem created things, and it really isn’t a mashal for Hashem Himself at all!

Today we learn something very important about how we get good parnasa.
Hashem has a plan for how much money a person should get for a whole year. The way to get these things is through Hashem’s bracha.
How do we get Hashem’s bracha? By doing our business the way Hashem wants. For example, we aren’t allowed to sell something so we will earn more money than the Torah allows us to — Ona’ah. When we act the way the Torah tells us, we get a DOUBLE bracha!
1) We get enough money for everything we need
2) We will be able to use our money for GOOD things, not things like doctor bills or lawyers, chas veshalom!

SEFER HAMITZVOS
Shiur #319 - Mitzvas Lo Saasei #280, Asei #177, Lo Saasei #276, #274

In Sefer Hamitzvos, we are learning more mitzvos for a Beis Din to follow, to make sure they are judging fairly. Today we have four mitzvos:
1) (Mitzvas Lo Saasei #280) A judge can’t judge unfairly against a widow or orphan. (Of course, it is asur to judge ANYONE unfairly, but it is an extra aveira if it is against a widow or orphan.)
We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Ki Seitzei: לֹא תַטֶּה מִשְׁפַּט גֵּר יָתוֹם
2) (Mitzvas Asei #177) A judge needs to treat both people in a case fairly. He needs to be ready to listen to whatever they have to say, even if they want to talk for a long time.
This mitzvah, which we learn from the posuk “Betzedek Tishpot Amisecha” includes other things also. One of them is that if two people who are arguing agree to come to a Talmid Chochom and not a Beis Din, he has a mitzvah to judge them fairly. Another one is that if someone does something, we should try to understand it as something good — Dan Lekaf Zechus.
We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Kedoshim: בְּצֶדֶק תִּשְׁפֹּט עֲמִיתֶךָ
The details of this mitzvah are explained in places throughout the Talmud.
3) (Mitzvas Lo Saasei #276) A judge isn’t allowed to be afraid of anyone! He isn’t allowed to be scared and think, “If I pasken against him, he will take revenge and ruin my field!”
We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Devarim: לֹא תָגוּרוּ מִפְּנֵי אִישׁ
4) (Mitzvas Lo Saasei #274) A judge isn’t allowed to take a bribe or even a present from anyone who comes to Beis Din, EVEN if he thinks he will pasken the same way anyhow.
We learn this mitzvah from a posuk in Parshas Mishpatim: וְשֹׁחַד לֹא תִקָּח

In Perek Yud-Tes, we learn a long list of aveiros that a Beis Din gives Malkos (lashes) for. There are 207 aveiros where a Beis Din would need to give Malkos!
In Perek Chof, we learn about judging fairly. If no witnesses SAW the person doing the aveira, even if it’s obvious that he did it, we can’t punish him. And if someone was forced to do an aveira, he can’t get punished by the Beis Din either. But we shouldn’t have rachmonus on someone and not punish him if he deserves it!
Perek Chof-Alef has more halachos about being fair when we judge. One halacha is about what to do if two people come to Beis Din because they are arguing about something, and one of them is dressed in fancy clothes, and one is dressed in not nice ones. The Beis Din tells the people they need to either both wear not nice clothes, or both wear fancy clothes, because it’s hard to treat both people equally otherwise!
If someone comes to Beis Din who only speaks Portuguese, the judge isn’t allowed to get someone to come and translate what the person is saying. He needs to understand Portuguese himself! (But if he understands it, and doesn’t speak so well, he is allowed to get a person to translate the psak.)

Today’s Rambam teaches us more about the halachos of a person who is mourning for someone who passed away.
Very soon when Moshiach will come, there will be no more reason for Hashem to take a person’s neshama away from their Guf. In fact, Hashem will return every neshama to their proper guf with Techiyas Hameisim!

The Achdus of chassidim will bring the Geulah!
The Rebbe told this story:
The Tzemach Tzedek once had to go to Petersburg (the capital) for many meetings. The government wanted to make rules about the kind of Chinuch the Yidden can have!
The Tzemach Tzedek wouldn’t say yes EVER to making any change in pure Yiddishe chinuch, and they were very mad at him! It was very dangerous for the Tzemach Tzedek to act this way.
One of the Rabbonim who was there asked the Tzemach Tzedek how he could do this! There are so many Yidden who NEED the Tzemach Tzedek, so how can he do something which puts his life in danger? Without him, many Yidden won’t know how to live how a Yid should!
The Tzemach Tzedek said he needs to do what he is doing, and if something would happen to him chas veshalom, there are two other ways to help all of these Yidden know how to act:
1) The Tzemach Tzedek’s children can take over and teach and guide the chassidim.
2) The achdus of Chassidim will carry them until Moshiach.
The Rebbe told this story 100 years after the histalkus of the Tzemach Tzedek. He said, “Now the first reason isn’t there anymore — only the second. We need to know that when Chassidim work together, we have the koach to bring Moshiach!”

In Kabolas Shabbos on Friday night, we start off with six kapitelach of Tehillim. These correspond to the six days of the week. The last one, “Mizmor LeDovid, Havu LaHashem,” is the one that corresponds to Friday.
After this, we say the paragraph of Ana Bekoach, which has 42 words. The first letters of all of these words together spell one of the names of Hashem! We always say Ana Bekoach at a time of aliyah, like at night before our neshama goes up to Hashem when we go to sleep. Now, at the end of the week, when the Avodah of the week becomes elevated, we say Ana Bekoach as well.
Now that we have mentioned each of the six days of the week, we say Lecha Dodi. This, and the rest of Kabolas Shabbos, is to honor the holy day of Shabbos!

When we praise another person, it is good for him and good for us! It is good for him because now he will want to do more special things. It is also good for us, because Hashem has nachas to hear us talking this way, and will want to give us more brachos!
There are halachos that help us make sure that the words we say only help the person we are talking about!
One halacha is that we should be careful about praising someone about how he was such a great host. We don’t want other people to hear and all start going to be his guest, until he has nothing left!

The Navi Yeshaya tells us that when Moshiach comes, he will stay our ruler forever! It was so sad for the Yidden when we went into Golus and no longer had a Yiddishe king, but that will never happen again.
לֹא יָבוֹא עוֹד שִׁמְשֵׁךְ וִירֵחֵךְ לֹא יֵאָסֵף כִּי ה׳ יִהְיֶה לָּךְ לְאוֹר עוֹלָם וְשָׁלְמוּ יְמֵי אֶבְלֵךְ
Lo Yavo Od Shimsheich — Your sun will not set anymore
Veyereichech Lo Yei’asef — And your moon will not hide its light.
This is a mashal that teaches us that Moshiach will stay our king forever! Even though a sun usually sets, and in the past we went into Golus and lost our kings, Moshiach’s rulership will never end.
Ki Hashem Yihiyeh Lach Le’or Olam — Because Hashem will be your light forever
Veshalmu Yemei Evleich — And your days of sadness will end.
We will never again have the sadness of losing the Yiddishe kings, because Hashem will make sure that the Melucha of Moshiach lasts forever.
